Lesson one - Wandering from the thread's original purpose kills thread

I'd like to go back to a topic Aquagal brought up, and that's what to do with information about people's Lit relationships. My hunch is that Lit will be no different than RL, where that type of information is rarely disclosed. Rightly or wrongly, the tendency is to not share. Should we or shouldn't we.......

Damn, people can tell me all the secrets they wont because I wont remember them, lol.

Well, the weekday only Litsters missed quite the weekend here in Litiquette-ville. But it's Minsay and time for a new topic. And here it is:

We've all been away for a period of time, for whatever reason, and come back and had to "catch up" with our favorite threads. Is the "catch up" read as good as being in the moment, either as you watch things unfold from a distance or were you to join in?

My "catch up" read is often an annoying chore. I've learned from other forums that it's important to keep up with the current vibe, but on the Lit forum there isn't a single place to check that out, so I need to trawl quite a few threads to obtain a representative feel. As I do so, it's frustrating to see opportunities that have passed by for me to contribute to a thread or its banter.

Has anyone found a better way to get a quick feel?

*sneaks in cops a feel*

That usually works for me. ;)

I'm mostly a weekday Lister. I don't read the forum much during the weekend, so I miss a lot. I usually go back and read this thread. Sometimes I get mad because I want to chime in on things that have already passed. But, the conversation has moved on and, as we say around these parts, I don't want to fuck a dead horse. Or beat off a dead horse.

This isn't quite the same thing but one time I went back and read this LONG ass thread in the How To section, hands down the best thread I've ever seen here. SOOOOOOOO entertaining. It was not long by PG standards, but like 50 pages which is an eternity elsewhere. And it was full of long posts where people were expressing their opinions and stuff. It was actually the thread where I met someone very important to me. That was such a fun thread to go back and read and see how I acted then and actually see a relationship develop, one hat is extremely important to me.

awwwww. that's sweet. :rose:

nice that you have it in black and white, and can relive those memories. :)

It is nice. It's pretty obvious why she fell for me. God I'm adorable. :D

But all kidding aside, it was an interesting thing to see again. You could literally see it all happening.

I would love to be there in the moment, but it seems a rare thing when I'm able..... I'm still entertained, learn things, and appreciate the effort and thought that goes into threads like these.

Hello Tuesday! We all love our Literotica time. Love the interactions, the topics, the stories, the pics, and of course the people. But how much do you really love it? What if Lit became a pay to play site? Would you pay a monthly fee to stay?

For myself, I would not. I'd miss it it but not enough to pay for it.

Nope, would give a few my email but definitely wouldn't pay for it.

Actually, I might pay if the amount per month was affordable by all so that the site would not categorize people by their status. To be honest if I had not tried it before I would not pay for it just to try but if it became a pay site now yes I might have paid in order to stay. Again only if it was just a small maintenance fee. The thing is would I then expect more because I would pay ??

I think I would consider a small fee. I think it would put off many of the moronic users too, so perhaps enhance the enjoyment of the site.

It is an interesting place I come and share ideas and I would miss the people if I didn't use it.

Not sure a fee can make some males more imaginative with their opening PM lines...but as I said, a fee may make the more casual users and those who abuse, think twice before bothering to sign up.

You could always have different access rights, so only paid members can PM but you can post for free as a guest.

Just ideas!

I wouldn't pay either.
As Breezy said, I would give my email-adress to (more) people too. I also might ask some friends here if they favor another site and eventual follow them there.

Jack, I am not sure if a (small) fee would keep asshats away.

For all the work that Laurel and Manu have put in over the years, I would be willing to compensate them. However, I think the idea of making Lit a pay site is so horrifying to them that we don't have to worry about it. I recall conversations a decade or so ago about that subject.

No doubt their efforts to keep this going are monumental. And I wasn't suggesting more curious to know how much we value the experience.

Well, I for one value the experience a lot, but not enough to pay (a lot) for it. I sincerely think Laurel and Manu make quite a lot of money with adds. Enough to keep the site free of charge, most possible more than they would make if the site wasn't free.

I wouldn't pay. And I don't think it would keep the asshats away. I've never been on a dating site, but from the stories I hear, fees do not keep sashays away from there. The sad thing is that money doesn't keep asshats away from anything. It seems they have their own money, which really sucks, as it looks like they will not go the way of the dodo any time soon.
