Litterally "cool" hard-drive recovery method.

Ole Sparky's been to computer school the past few days and one of the stranger pieces of information I came away with was this.........

Take your crashed-dead hard drive (if you have one, hope you never do) and before you send it off to the very expensive "recovery doctors" - do this......

Put it in an air-tight antistatic bag.....

Put that bag in your freezer with an ice-tray full of water.....

When the water has frozen solid, take the bag out - take the hard-drive and quickly install it back in your puter.....

Fire the beast up and dump all the pertinant information over to a CD or CD's - as swiftly as possible - "they say" you only get one chance so don't fuck up.

I swear this is a true story as told to me by my instructor and "they say" they have done it and it works.

And, if it doesn't work for you for whatever reason - the high priced recovery folks can still get your information out.

Pretty interesting - hope I never have to try it.

Beats the hell out of my method, which involves a lot of heavy handed hitting with an 8 oz. hammer.

ACtullay I have used this and pushed my luck and worked it 3 times same crashed out HD

Geeze LL!!!

When did that billboard appear?

Hell! I'll bet yer getting tons of private e-mails with that damn thing.

Man! Blantant sex! I like it!

Just an FYI

Recovery 98 is a really good program and has a very high success rate. It worked for me and I got back about 90% of my "crashed" files. I am still holding out hope for the other 10%. This kind of technology is continuously improving and the price is getting more and more reasonable.

Recovery 98 runs about $150 (The Express version runs about $60) and you can even download a free demo.

You run it off a disk and do NOT install it onto the drive you're trying to recover from, lest you write over important files during the installation.

Compared to the high prices charged by data recovery "experts" I have really been impressed with this little program.

MP ;)
