Long covid

Longlastingsymptoms

I have friends who have had it and do not have 100% of their taste back yet, have fatigue and back aches from time to time. We definitely do not know the long term effects of COVID.

I have fatigue and back aches from time to time...and no one has ever accused me of having taste.

I better get checked. :)

Does it come as a surprise that lit women of a certain age want to talk about their fascination with a long covid?

Yesterday the news in the UK was that 200,000 people have long covid that is severe enough that they couldn't work or live a normal life.

So far, although research is in progress, doctors have nothing to treat it with and no idea how long people might be affected. Many sufferers are younger people who had mild covid and didn't need hospital treatment.

You're surprised that young people don't seem to want to work?

Must be a new mystery disease.

Let's call it "Long Covid" because scarier and completely unsupported by data.

The people I know that have it would disagree. It is a serious condition and denying that it exists doesn't help.

I raise it because there are lots and lots of nebulous conditions and syndromes that are used, perhaps fairly, perhaps unfairly, to expand the definitions of long term disability.

absolutely...

my youngest, now in her twenties, is still left with extreme, debilitating repercussions from a virus she experienced as a 7-year-old. chronic fatigue syndrome doesn't always clear up in a few weeks or months, and can get worse as the patient gets older, and isn't just some vague catch-all for a person who feels a bit sleepy from time to time. physical and mental exhaustion are nothing to be laughed at and hard to live with, year after year.

The scary thing about long covid is that it could knock a decade off someone's life expectancy.

Guess what? London's manufactured Cov-19 v2 - an upgraded, more infectious version of your favourite virus. At least the people dreaming of herd immunity will be pleased

Sweden says herd immunity approach was a huge failure.

Our latest virus upgrade has the government in a panic. After weeks of insisting that the Xmas plans wouldn't be changed, several parts of the country are pretty much in lockdown for the holidays.
Fingers crossed that the vaccine still has an impact.

The first folks that contracted AIDS didn't have very many long-lasting effects. It took a while to perfect the perfect cocktail to battle the beast. Remember how frightened you were back then? :)

This isn't AIDS - or hadn't you noticed?

Far more people have been infected than ever were with AIDS and far more are dying now.

Clearly, Mom is trying to cull the human parasite. Expect her to accelerate her plan.

You can't fool Mother Nature!

Fingers crossed the public retains any confidence in the clusterfuck of government advice. How long before the Murdoch machine starts doubting the new strain? btw I see cunty Murdoch snr has had his fucking vaccination. He reminds me of the teacher in Pink Floyd's the Wall

I was prepubescent, and sex was still a gross thing I never wanted to do, because eeeew! So, no, no fear of the aids.

The first guys to contract AIDS died, and death is pretty long lasting.

One almost entirely unknown long term effect of AIDS is that the Pension Funds of airline cabin crew made huge surpluses because many of the potential male pensioners never got old enough to draw a retirement cheque. Sometimes Pension funds include a 'death in service' benefit but that was usually outsourced to a separate life insurer, so once again the Pension funds did not suffer financially from the death of a member.

I recall at least one CEO of a major airline who awarded himself a thumping profit bonus - a profit largely achieved by reducing the company contribution to the pension which suddenly had many less members.

That's so awful, it must be true

700000 people die every year from aids. :)

More people have died from Covid this year and the time from infection to death is far shorter. The UK death rate is for those who have died with 28 days of being diagnosed i.e. four weeks. If you catch AIDS you will usually live far longer than that which gives more time for treatment.

Of course, you couldn't get aids from someone breathing near you...

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

I did some digging around Ogg and found some interesting numbers and facts.

First off the death rate in the US for 2018 (the most recent year I could dig up hard numbers for) was 867.8 per 100K.

The UN projected death rate for the US for 2020 is 880.0 per 100K. An increase of 12.2 deaths per 100K or approx. 39,600 deaths. That number is far below the advertised Wuhan Flu death count.

Deaths per 100K in the US have been on the rise for several years now. There are two reasons for this. The "boomers" are starting to age out. The big post WWII population bubble is dying off. Secondly, and more distressingly, there has been an increase in the death rate among the 18-45 year old demographic due to opioid over dose and suicide.

While the death rate in the US is most certainly on the rise the reasons for that rise are muddled to say the least. One take away is that many of those in the most vulnerable demographic would have died anyway, Wuhan or no Wuhan. That is of little consolation to those left behind, but that is a significant part of the equation.

It is obvious that the CDC is playing with the numbers/statistics. Their motive for doing so is straight forward, it will have an impact (positive) on their funding for the next fiscal year. It's a bureaucracy and that's what bureaucracies do.

I doubt that we're going to have a true picture of the impact of this virus until 2022 at the soonest, most likely 2023. By those years we should have returned to a "normal" distribution.

It is a good thing they are covering their tracks with all the dead bodies in temporary morgues!
