LOVE....in perspective

IMO AoE, love involves a deep emotional attachment with a person, place or thing, eg; I love my parents, kids, dog, car, team, etc.
Being in love involves a desire/passion on a sexual level and one of exclusivity.

Yes, many relationships have unequal balance with one being more in love than the other. It starts with what they loved about you in the beginning and if it was based on sex or desire and happiness.

I think the moment for me is when everything about us melds right and the differences are insignificant enough they're meaningless. It's when your heart feels it's happiest, that you feel you are in love and in relation to the previous question, is if both feel the same.

My opinions, but hope they help. :rose:

Ok, that does it for me RC...Will you marry me? ;):rose::heart:
Let me know as soon as possible, I have things I need to arrange.

Love is wanting to kick your husband's ass but not wanting to hurt him...
Love is killing a spider for both husband and son (who are scared of them) and not showing you're just as scared of it as they are...
Love is taking care of your spouse who's sick because he works with 6 year olds on a daily basis when they are germ carrying factories no matter what...

I have more... because I'm old and life and love has taught me a lot.

Some people are cut out for love, some people aren't. I am a hopeless romantic, but don't think I am "love" material. Not that I don't have qualities that could be loved, but it just wasn't meant to be and I am ok with it now. I am just trying to be happy being me now. :D:rose:

I've had a chance to look at love again and see it being played out. One thing that always seems to stand out, is people's fear of feeling and expressing it. So much of it comes from the pain and hurt it causes and seems to drive those feelings deeper inside, or denied altogether.

I for one have felt enough of that pain and ask myself why. How can one open up and begin to show those feelings, then pull away and hide them? Sometimes I hear that it's a fear of experiencing it, sometimes a fear of letdown and disappointment.

Why is love so much in demand to experience and so hard to accept or give?

Respect and trust are key and crucial for those feelings to begin, but when all the elements are present, what causes us to hold back?

isn't it funny how far a person can pull back when just a thread of question is present?

So true, GG. Most times it can be no more than an assumption, or a misinterpretation of something said or done. What happens is nothing being said and that wall is put up for the wrong reasons. They wait for other signs and decide on them that they can't love someone, yet the person has no idea what's wrong and explain themselves.

It comes down to quick judgements based on prior experiences and most will take flight over fight in matters of love. I wonder how many loves could have happened, had one heart not shut out the other like that?

Your words and thoughts are so true and unfortunately accurate. They reflect my own thoughts.

Why do people do these things? Why would you want to deny yourself the love of another? ...and why, if you have feelings for someone, can you not be truthful with yourself and others about your feelings?

It appears people say they want love, they're looking for love, and they're ready for love. However, when love or something like it is there for them, they run or deny their want for it. It really is quite funny and sad at the same time.

We fall down and skin our knees, but we get back up and do it again and again. We face all sorts of hurts and pains doing something, but most times we'll keep at it, but not with love. So much importance is put on it being a 'one time love of your life thing' and if it doesn't happen, we feel a failure in ourselves that we aren't good at it, or don't deserve it somehow.

I think love needs to be looked at as a skinned knee when we fail at it and get back up and try again and again. Each time we try, we'll learn something new about it and get a better understanding of it. Once a better knowledge and understanding of what love is about, the happier we'll be enjoying it for what it is.

Love is just another four letter word..... It's what you put into it that makes "Love" a awesome word to say to someone....:rose:

To quote Dorothy Parker:

"Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong,
And I am Marie of Romania."

But honestly, a lot of the posts here in this thread have come close to making me cry.

Sigh.

This might be what's left of the priest or poet in me but I think love--all kinds of love--is necessarily unconditional. If it's not, then what you have isn't love--it's a transaction of some sort and love is not transactional.

If you have a child and never give without expectation of reward, that's not love. That's a running up the kid's credit with the intention of making a margin call in the future.

The same is true of all the other forms.
