Mae's DC Trip! (Lotsa pix)

Mae13

Thank you sooo much for sharing your photos with us.
We tend to get so caught up in our lives and other nonsense, that we have to make a trip like this to gain some perspective..or to even be able to look at the pics like you have shared.'

I have not been able to make a trip to D.C. to see this, but I hope to one day.
It's so sad we get so caught up in all things trivial that it takes something like this to shake us up and out of ourselves. I am as much at fault for this as the next person. It is so easy to forget....but we never should.

Thank you so much again, Mae...I especially was touched by your pics of the Wall and of the nurses' graves.

Have a warm and blessed new year.

Thanks for sharing Mae........

I found your photographs really interesting...I have never been to the States yet.....my globetrotting has been confined to western Europe so far and a brief few weeks in South Africa when I was 8 years old.....

Once again.....thanx;)

Very Moving Pictures

Your pictures are always great regardless of the subject manner and its nice to see your post. They are very moving pictures of the wall, especially the close up of the names.
Theres something about that picture that reaches out and grabs you. It's almost spiritual.

The Ones Who Serve When Called Should Never Be Forgotten and Deserve Our Thanks And Appreciation

Thanks Mae

Mae,
Thanks for posting some amazing pictures, and thanks for serving our country!. I missed going to Viet nam by the luck of the lottery, and by Nixon ending the war just after I graduated high school. I went to college with a lot of men/women who were coming home from Nam, and not a day goes by in my ife that I dont reflect on how my life would have been changed if I had gone..That memorial is incredible...brings tears to my eyes when I'm walking towards it...I just stare at it and think...Next year my daughter will be in college in DC, and so for the next 4 years, I will getting to know DC even better and reflecting on my own life.
Thanks for your contributions

Those were some pretty moving sentiments and photos, Mae. I work with three former servicemen, one a former marine and vietnam vet - he's one of the greatest guys you'd ever meet... The Army and different branches of the service often come up in conversation; through those conversations I've learned to respect what they, and people like you, have done.

AND as for those photo's being Non-nudes, those pervs can use a little culture now and again, don't you think? ;)

Thank you for sharing. :)

To Mae

I spent 13 yrs in the Navy so as a former service member i know what others go through when they are defending their country. I missed Vietnam by a few yrs also but joined the Navy later on. It runs in the family my father and 3 uncles were also in the Navy.

I was lucky enough to visit Washington/D.C./Va. area this summer on a family vacation and i got some very good pics also.
My pics included some of the sites you got. Even got some of the changing of the guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Solider it was raining so hard you can see the drops hitting the sidewalk, but i wouldn't trade those pics for nothing.

But i do know what you mean about those memorials having an affect on a person how could they not.

Re: My steed

You look more like 6 or 7 to me! But very cute! LOL Nice pictures!

They have a wonderful carousel near the Smithsonian Castle which I took a ride on when I was taking in some sights with a fellow Lit'er...yeah, someone got to see me making a fool of myself and acting about 10 years old! I can't help it, I get on a carousel and *wham!* insta-childhood again :) I'm silly that way...

Great pics of DC Mae. Maybe next time you are comming this way we can meet up. I have only lived here a couple years but I really love it! There is a never ending string of things to do here. Here is a pic my daughter took with a cheap ($49) digital camera. Not bad for a 9 year old.

DC Posts

Thanks Mae - I have never been to DC so the only visual reference I had was that which textbooks and network television implanted in my mind over the years.
Your photographs have helped my perspective of the beauty that can be found in our capital city!

Thank You:

Thank you for the beautiful picture of DC. Its been a few years (1995) since I took my family to see the sites there and I enjoyed revisting them though your eyes. Below is a link to a site that should give you a little more information on the statue you called The Watchmen. I hope we get to see more of of you trip to DC.

Mae,
You know how to capture a picture in a shot that truely tells of it's story. I for have to agree the last Nurse you took looked like she was crying and didn't know how to go on. My hubby is Military and he has been wanting to get back to the Tomb of The Unknown Soldeirs. I know once he has finished registerying he will let you know as well you did wonders with your camera.
Did you know that the any soldeirs in the Tomb once Idetified do get moved to their final resting spot. And what ever branch he or she was from will be repplaced by the same branch. I for one hope and pray you are right about your POW/MIA and that he did not survive the crash as well. Because one does not need to spend 30 yrs hoping for help when it doesn't come. I also have two POW/MIA's I do not have their braclets as of yet but every holiday I set a place for them at my table and I light a candle for them in my home every night. I have not forgotten them and I will never forget them.

Thanks hon for showing your wonderful trip throgh your even more wonderful photography.
