Question, I have never fully shaved, am working on it right now, I used to just shave around the area, I was wondering how guys (and girls too) get rid of the little red bumps or if there is no way to do that. I don't know how to describe them, but they are annoying, just wondering if anyone has any tips. Also, any other advice for male shaving would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Just keep doing it and your body will get use to it. Have a good razor and some shaving cream too not the cheep stuff.

I use the Gilette Mac3 Power Razor w/The Gilette Fusion Shaving Gel. It's mainly top of the line, I don't want to use a Fusion Razor yet too many blades to possibly make cuts with at such little experience :p

Fusion is great... I thought so to but my GF got me one it works good and you hardly need to change the blade.

I use a standard non electric 3 blade gillette razor. I do it in the shower with shampoo rather than shaving cream, I find it softens the hair and surrounding area way better than shaving cream. I also shave with the grain, it may grow back faster but it eliminates most chances for ingrown hairs, and I dont get the little red bumps anymore.

Many of those annoying razor bumps are caused by infection. If you do it in the course of taking your shower, you'll cut down on the odds of getting an infection.

Myself, I'm wondering when guys depilating themselves will go out of fashion. They look so vulnerable with no hair on their nutsacks, like Weimaraners.

It actually keeps it cleaner. I guess some females don't have a problem with getting pubes in their teeth.

On a man , I enjoy a really close trim. no need to shave.but that is just MHO. I use the new Fusion on myself and either use hair conditioner or qlycerin soap that you can get at Bath and body for about $1.00 a bar. adn the bumps are near all gone now. but I also use a 'scrubby' pad to scrub the skin before shaving (To eliminate ingrown hairs) and then if you have some redness in bump form. you can crush an aspirin in a little bit of water, and it will reduce the swelling ( just wash off before oral as it doesn't have that taste) I have also used hydrocortisone cream for that too. {Put on right after shaving } I like the hydrocortisone cream better. Can get a nice thin layer on youself and not worry about taste.

Poor hygiene is poor hygiene--regardless of whether or not there's hair in the area.

Shave it all off.

I shave it all off, and very rarely get the red dots or lumps. I looked at several wedsites that really gave the same advice.

I use shaving cream I let is set on the area I want to shave for 3 min believe me it helps. Then I shave in the direction the hair is growing, using warm not hot water to clean the razor. I then use a damp face rag to wash of any missed shaving cream and dry myself. I then reaply the shaving cream and shave against the direction of the hair, again using warm water to clean razor. And thats the last step just dry and your good to go?

new razor the first time you do it.
i find thick cream, like plain Barbasol, works better than gel.

i also go against the grain.
if you shave, you gotta do it every other day, or you'll get bristly enough to irritate the vagina.

If you've got a water system, you can get by with the near-lifetime supply of special soap they provide along with it.

As mentioned earlier, use a good shaving cream and a new sharp razor. I shave with the grain, in the shower. I sometimes have to re-apply the shaving cream and go over it more than once. Thoroughly rinse afterwards. I shave at least every other day and have never had a problem with the bumps, razor burn, or stubble.

I fucking hate the red bumps! When i get them after i shave they last quite a while too, usually untill the next time i want to shave it. Kinda discouraging when your thinking about getting with a chick and you have red bumps in that area lol. So if i shave often enough the skin will get used to it? Right now i have gillete deep cleansing gel, annd a cheapo 2 blade razor (not enough oney for them fancy mach 3 blade refills (have the razor, not the blades lol)

I have tried shaving 'with the grain' for some reason it just doesn't work for me. I too have found that ifyou shave every other day, your skinbecomes accustomed to it, and the bumps are down to a minimum. I think it is very cool that you are worried about keeping your 'package' in a eye pleasing way.as I used to get all nervous about thebumps too and would have a hard time NOT thinking about them when i wanted to play.

SAVE up you money and get a 4 blade razor! The disposable ones don't keep a nice enough edge on them to get thru one good shave with out causing more bumps. {But maybe i am just more furry than most :catroar: }

I've been using the Schick Quattro for the past few months and I like it pretty well. I use a separate razor for my legs and underarms, though, because I'm cheap and I like the expensive blades to last a little longer.

The other day, I needed to buy some more Quattro blades. Wal-mart had the Quattro Power with five replacement blades for just under $5. If I had bought just the replacement blades, I would have paid around $7--maybe a bit more--for four blades.

In another shaving thread, a Litster suggested using Jergens Shave Minimizer lotion. It works well enough, but you have to use it regularly.

Same here. And I'm up to three different Quattro handles now because they're often cheaper than buying replacement blades, as you said. I don't think I've paid more than 50 cents per cartridge (they're at least $2.25 each here) since I started using the razor, and love how they're interchangeable and last a long time. I think the Power does the best job, but maybe that's the marketing talking. ;)

I've used the Power twice, and I'm pleased so far. :)

I like to trim personally, but for certin areas I've found nair to be very effective.

This is just something to throw out there....

reading one of your everyday women's fashion mags this morning, I came across an article suggesting one use a single-bladed razor, new, instead of one of the multi-bladed ones. Using fewer blades, it said, causes less irritation on the surface of the skin and while it does not shave *quite* as closely, it cuts down on ingrown hairs, which is what a number of the red bumps can be.

I point this out only as something I saw -- I personally use one of the gillette venus for women, it's a triple-blade razor, and I'm an against-the-grain girl too.

I can see the point the article makes, but I always felt that more blades meant you had to go over the area less often, cutting down on irritation that way.

It might be something to try, though. I dunno.

I have been using the Suave Smoothing lotion..... and it does make the hair softer and EVENTUALLY less... but you have to be diligent ( sp?) with it... and to be honset.... I liked it better on the legs.... when putting it at the 'Y' I actually ended up with more ingrown hairs........ I am guessing it made the hair more soft and eaiser to become ingrown.

So now I just use it on the legs

Sometimes I think they keep changing their minds about EVERYTHING, so it gets more people interested in finding out who it correct. I am a 'try it and see how it works ' kind of gal.......Which reminds me... Tried the Nair.... I had a BAD chemical burn in my mot tender spots.... which meant, by the time I felt better and wanted to play... the hair was back anyway LOL...
