What political party now existing, in any country, would you consider a genuine socialist party, one you could join with enthusiasm? Any examples?

I know of none that I would consider joining.

But I am a democrat primarily and I don't believe political parties are necessarily democratic. Nor do I particularly believe that the Westminster system is democratic.

Especially in two party systems like the USA.

If you can't overthrow the ruling class at the ballot box it isn't a democracy anyway.

It occurs to me that if the U.S. pulls out of NATO, NATO and the EU could be merged -- that is, NATO would become simply the EU's military arm.

Would not work. The largest land army in Nato after the US is not Germany, France or UK; it is Turkey. The Europeans won't let Turkey into the EU and the Turks have got a good deal blackmailing the EU. The Turks hold up the Arab /islamic refugees - so long as the EU pays them - a lot, to do it

It's absurd to speculate on a NATO without the US.

NATO exists to enrich US capitalists.

That's its entire raison d'etre.
