My name is Don Wendell, and her name is Sarah.

I'm 52 years old, divorced for 2 years after being married for 24. I've been on dates, but nothing has clicked for me. I used to think it was because part of me still loved my wife, but that thought would leave my mind as soon as I talked to her for any length of time. Memories come back to me from when I was single, when I would just go on an endless string of dates with none of them standing out. I realized I would stay on this dead end road because I was asking women out even though I wasn't particularly attracted to the woman. I was doing it out of habit.

But one day, I met Sarah. She worked in my office, in an area where I didn't go very often. She had a dazzling smile, always dressed nice without being too dressy, and had a really nice laugh. After we met, we would cross paths now and then and have friendly conversations, and these talks seemed to get longer and more personal. I genuinely enjoyed talking to her, but I couldn't imagine she felt the same way. She was pretty and young, but that was the problem.

She had to be half my age.

Was I wasting my time, or did I have a chance with her? I decided I needed to find out. Even if she shot me down in flames, at least I would know, and I wouldn't spend the rest of my life wondering. I decided to ask her out when I saw her. That day came and I was shaking like a teenager when I saw her, thankfully standing alone.

"Hi Sarah," I said, approaching her. She replied with a cheerful "hi" and that great smile. "I know this might be coming out of left field, but I was hoping if you weren't busy this weekend, we could maybe have dinner...."
