Well, this has annoyed me for awhile. I think I have a good sized penis, but I don't know the proper way to measure it length wise and width wise. Can someone enlighten me on how to do it?

Many answers to this, but the true measurement should be from the base of your cock (top side, not balls side) to the end of the head.

Width is tricky since most cocks tend to have wider parts, some taper, etc..
Do as you wish, but again the width can be measured from the left side of the penis at the base to the right edge.

Circumfrence is where it's at, get yourself a seamstress tape measure (don't know the exact name but it's a very soft, flexible tape) and wrap it around to get your measurement.
