I took it as a good signal that during a fast song she was resting her head on my shoulder as if it were a slow song. As the song ended a man on the stage asked Shelia to sing.
Shelia took the stage and seemed nervous at first. But once she got warmed up her voice was amazing. It was hard to believe a voice that big could come out of a body that small. As she serenaded me with her eyes the waited came to see if we needed anything else. I tapped him on the shoulder and with a beaming smile, I pointed towards the stages and said, "She's with me."
I watched the couples fill the dance floor and wished I had someone to dance with. I knew we could dance later so I didn't want to pull her off the stage and interrupt her incredible voice. As she sang the line "my lonely days over", I smirked, hoping that they were truly over. I sat there basking the twilight of the day. It had been eventful and if this was all our relationship ever would be, just friends at dinner, that'd be fine. Although upon first impressions she seemed like the perfect type to give me closure and forget about Linda. The song ended and I made a point of clapping the loudest. She didn't even make eye contact with me as she stepped off the stage.
"You were great." I said touching her hand as she returned to her seat at the table. We sat eating in silence, occassionally interrupted by fellow clubgoers who would compliment Shelia on her voice. I ate my burger quickly, all except one bite. I tossed it back on the plate and leaned back, sighing. Shelia gave me a look like "eyes bigger than your stomach?" "Oh I was going to wrap this up and take it home for Charlie, since I don't have any treats at home for him." I said explaining.
"So tell me Shelia, what other hidden talents do you have? You already know mine. I have the ability to injure myself almost everytime I play tennis. By day I'm a mild-mannered freelance worker but my alter-ego can appear and repel asshole ex-husbands in a single bound." I said trailing off assuming she didn't want to be reminded of what happened in the afternoon.
