I was thinking, if it were possible to be surgically turned into a big breasted mermaid would you do it?

It mean you would no longer have to work ever again but you would be reduced to being a pet mermaid, would you consider it?

It'd be a fairly awkward conversation between myself, the wife, and my kids, but anything has beat being an overweight, nearly 50-year old guy - even things which don't include the phrase 'big breasted' I'm assuming I also get Daryl Hannah looks with the 'maid' part of this deal. If so, on balance, I'll take it.

Don Knotts?

Let's tweak the hypothetical. If you could turn your partner into a mermaid, would you?

I guess we would have to live by the beach, and we'd cut down on clothing expenses. With her daily catch, we'd have lots of sushi for dinner. So, it's worth thinking about.

The first big reference that occurs to me is Splash with Daryl Hannah, although we never discover what is the mechanism by which she can change to Human and back to mermaid except for when she gets wet enough she turns into a mermaid and when she's dry enough she gets legs. But we get nothing about the biological component or the transformation/triggers. I don't believe they ever fully explored this in a movie, although they were going to study her to see how she transformed and study her kind and such so it suggested a genetic profile being taken and if there were ever a story written fictionally about this it may very well have to delve into genetics to generate sufficient verisimilitude if you wanted to cover a scientific side but it would make for a very fascinating and read and I would have to applaud someone for doing it for having such ingenuity. So if someone were to have a friend that well skilled and genetics or at least some type of biology or science teacher that's been teaching for 20 years, they could probably give you something scientific enough to make it read plausibly.

The only time something ever came relatively close to genetic manipulation but I know of is Stargate SG1 with the character Nirrti, where in one episode she was trying to genetically modify the children of a planet in order to engineer a more biologically Advanced human (Hok-tar, "Rite of Passage," s05e06) for a Gou-ald host in order to boost the body's resilience and extend the Gou-ald lifespan without using a sarcophagus so much. In a later episode she experimented on people captured by manipulating their genetic code visually and causing certain abilities with telepathy and other mental powers that were making them into kind of X-Men ("Metamorphosis," s06e16). So if someone could get enough to go off of that, that could also help with a scientifically-based mermaid story.

On the plus side, a big-boobed mermaid wouldn't have to deal with back problems if she spent most of her time in the water 🤔

Lucky that my breasts are small and humble, so people don't confuse them with mountains. Besides, my legs, with my height, are my favorite part of my body! Why would I do that? I already know how to swim.

...

Yes, I know that's a Shakira song.

Heck, instead of weighing her down they’d actually lift her up, being flotation devices and all.

In Series 2 of Dark Angel, which devolves often into monster-of-the-week, we see two X5s that are ostensibly mermaids.

I wrote a couple of tales for OP that have human women being surgically transformed, but these are dystopian sci-fi.
