Mint and Honey

"Mariko and his team will stay as long as they're needed. Let them know if you need anything during the night. I'll be back in the morning," Alex instructed quietly. "Mariko has a concoction to help Brogan sleep, should he wake again."

“Trust me when I say this, sir, but I will stay with that cub until he takes his last breath.” Rissa said softly as Alex gave them simple instructions. “He won’t have to fight this alone as long as we’re around.”

Alex was mildly surprised by such a strong vow of loyalty coming from his cousin's lady-in-waiting. He wanted to ask why she was so dedicated, but he decided it wasn't his business. "I'm glad to hear it," he murmured. "Send for me if anything happens. I think it's time we got some sleep."

He shared a glance with Yasmine before turning to head out.

“Your cousin has secrets that are not up to us to know.” Yasmine said softly. “Who she loved and how she loves are between herself, her husband, and those they allow in their bed.”

"Hopefully they all get the rest they desperately need. I can't say that I agree with drugging her, but she clearly needs the help." Yasmine said as she took Alex's hand and held it as they continued their walk to his rooms.

"I normally wouldn't agree with anything that strong. But I feel Rissa knows what she's doing." As they stepped into his room in the keep, the dull, earthy scent of drying herbs enveloped them and Alex sighed, glancing around the sparse but welcoming space. "I wish it were all as easy taking down some exotic herb from the rafters and making some miracle concoction."

“Life is never that easy. You and I both know that.” Yasmine said softly as she took a seat on the edge of the bed and took off her scarf, laying it aside and unbinding her hair. “Your cousin make me the head drake master. And gave me a higher ranking in his military. They have also offered me a house on the grounds. It’s a lot to think about.”

"So they've heard of your work in Palmyra. It seems like a good job for you." Alex sat down beside her to help smooth out her long hair. "I know I've welcomed you to live with me, but a home in the keep grounds might be more convenient."

"Perhaps I'll take it for the evenings that there are emergencies or when the weather is too bad to travel." Yasmine said as she looked over at Alex. "You can't breathe a word of this to jiddo for a while. He would spend lavishly to make sure that my home had everything that I could ever need. I want to continue doing this on my own."

"I won't say a thing." Alex leaned over to kiss her. "You know this room is open to you as well if you need it."

"I know. However this is your domain. I don't want to trespass when there is important work to be done." Yasmine said softly, giving him a smile. "I know that if anyone can figure out what is going on with Brogan, it will be you."

"I don't have a domain," Alex chuckled, "and I like having you nearby." At her vote of confidence, he stole another kiss before starting to get ready for bed.

"You do so have a domain." Yasmine said as he stole another kiss and stood to get ready for bed. "You would be cross if anything ever happened to this space and you know it."

"I don't think I'd be too bothered. Ma would just set Boar on whoever was responsible." Alex smiled to himself as he laid aside his jacket and shirt and boots. "I'm not one to get angry easily."

"That's different, love. There was no good reason for that situation to happen, among other things.." He glanced to her over his shoulder, his expression softer now.

"Im sure it will happen again. Probably many times over my life. Many men out there don't know quite what to do with me." Yasmine said as she stood and undressed, slipping beneath the sheets of his bed to relax.

"I don't even know what to do with you. But that's no excuse to get violent. Violence should always be a last resort." He came to join her side, slipping in behind her and wrapping an arm around her waist.

"I think I like the idea that you don't know what to do with me. It will keep you honest." Yasmine said with a small smile as he wrapped his arm around her waist.

"Honest and mildly stressed," Alex pressed a kiss to the back of her shoulder. "I love you anyway."

"I'm glad to hear you say that. If you didn't love me, I'm sure that my uncle would track you down after all the of the things that we've done in bed." Yasmine teased as he pressed a kiss against her naked shoulder.

"They were mostly your idea," Alex reminded her. "You're the insatiable one. And I'm convinced most of the reason you took me out to the pool was to get me in as few clothes as possible."

"No, it was to get you to relax. In fact, as soon as you wake in the morning, I'm going to do the same." Yasmine said with absolute confidence.
