Adam had never seen a dress made to match the color of a woman’s eyes, but that is exactly what he saw as he took his seat. Being closer than he had ever been to this lovely picture, Adam felt out of his league all of a sudden and to add to his unsure feelings, she already knew his name. Now that puzzled him. Was she like the cabin girl daddy had bought and paid for when he arranged this trip? The cabin girl was being paid to stay with Adam, parts of her services he liked, like the hot baths she seemed to always have drawn when he returned to his cabin, the way her delicate hands scrubbed his back. This woman was too elegant, sophisticated he convinced himself.
He had been raised in the proper social circles and socializing was common place to him, but the vision that sat across from him was breath taking.
He stammered for the right words, fumbling through his thoughts …..
“My name is Adam ma’am, and how are you this lovely evening?”
Yes, you heard right, he had just introduced himself to the lovely woman, who had just called him by name. It was not as smooth as he would have liked, but at least he had managed to get something out …..
He anticipated her response, when none was forth coming, he began again ….. “Ma’am, My name is Adam Wainwright, and I am honored to be graced with your charm and beauty tonight.” Dammit he thought, “I did it again.” Better he thought, at least it came out better, hadn’t appeared to make much difference to the lovely lady as still no response seemed to be pending.
If she knew my name, then why the silent treatment now?
“Ma’am, you appear to have me at a slight disadvantage, you apparently know who I am, while I on the other hand am clueless as to you identity.” Now that flowed a little easier for him. Still, no audible response, though her eyes gave away her interest. Adam’s interest was renewed. He had sat here only a short time, but long enough o realize the this was not one of the school girls he had chased all over Louisville, by no means. This was a real woman, a woman who apparently knew the finer points of seduction he thought.
Sliding his chair closer to her side of the table, close enough for his leg to brush hers and to come to rest lightly on her calf. He leaned across the table, closer to her “I have had my eye on you since you boarded, you're curves meander like this river we’re we travellin’ on.” I don’t know you name and I think it is high time I got to know you.
