Money no object car collection

It’s the perfect money is no object novelty car. Don’t rain on my fantasy. 🙃 Although, having to get rescued for my sinking car doesn’t hold much appeal, I stand by my choice.

It would indeed be a money no object car. You would need a full-time mechanic to keep it capable of being afloat.

Wow! That thing is beautifully minimalistic.

It's also THE ugliest piece of crap on two wheels I've ever seen in my life. Even from an operating standpoint, it's crap because it has no battery storage capacity.

And that's without even mentioning the horrible COG issue.

I'm thinking of doing this one anyhow because It's my dream cruiser.

I want a 63' Lincoln Continental, hard top, triple black...full restoration, modern suspension/brakes/drivetrain and a top notch stereo.

And it would look good sitting outside the goth house.

A fully built by Titan Motorsports 1500whp Japanese street missile....Highway monster and roll race legend.

The MkIV Toyota Supra JZA80

The Aston Martin to have....the DB-5 would obviously be added to the collection.

Lamborghini Countach ....the most 80's car EVER.

It would be all hair metal, pleather and spandex in this vehicle at all times and I'd have the interior reupholstered in zebra print pre-soaked in cocaine

Is there anything that needs to be said here??

And because it would look good next to the Lincoln in front of goth house....complete the whole look with a proper hunch backed or pale and crypt keeper looking driver.

1937 Mercedes-Benz 230 Lang Cabriolet......yes it's THAT Mercedes.

Lucas was better than Wipac.

Wipac was that bad.

During WW1 and WW2 any destroyed German vehicles had the Bosch components removed for use on British equipment...

Reconditioned Lucas equipment was labelled B90 because you had to say 'Bugger!' 90 times before it would work.

Every small town had an overworked car electrician because Lucas equipment failed that often.

Ford UK used vacuum-operated wipers and Vauxhall (General Motors) used cable operated wipers for decades despite their flaws because they were more reliable than Lucas.

Lucas was pretty bad, not familiar with the other.

Even without that system in particular, I’ve had a few imports from over there, including two Triumphs, an Aston and that Jaguar.

It’s a miracle you people ever get anywhere!

If we reduce speed limits, then we can cut weight and increase mpg. We don't need 3000 pounds of steel to move one human. A golf cart or moped would be fine if highways are 45 mph and other roads are 25-30.

The fun would be in more mpg and less need for a steel cave and other safety equipment of modern fast heavy cars, the lower cost of road and bridge maintenance for lighter cars, the shorter commutes as we reverse suburban sprawl, and generally seeing more of the landscape as we cruise by instead of screaming past it.

I’m thinking this might not be the thread for that discussion.

I’ll consider your viewpoint tomorrow while getting 6 MPG every time I romp on the gas pedal, though.

I promise?

IF people liked to go slow, however, it has been proven over & over that people LOVE speed.

That is why humans continually make fast things. And even faster things. And then even faster things. (planes, cars, motorcycles - you name it, someone has made it go faster)

When has there ever been a competition to makes things go slower??

Even with solar cars, not only do they try for the farthest that it can go, they still try to get them to go as fast as they can to their final destination.

Even with posted speed limits of 70 mph on the highways where I live, if you're doing ONLY 70, then people are on your tail and you better be in the right hand lane for slower traffic.

If money really was no object - like I was Bezos, I would try to own one of everything that was ever produced.

Then I could drive a different one every hour and never get bored.

Of course, I would have my favorites and probably drive them more than I would some of the other ones.

With less concern for mpg, I'd like a Ranchero or El Camino with a Ford inline six. A Ranchero would need less work, but would be harder to find. An El Camino would need an engine transplant, maybe some hood work to fit a taller engine, and rear bodywork to move the taillights out of the bumper.

Or carve a pickup out of some wagon or sedan.

I don't know about that. Ever rolled a golf cart at 45?

With all due respect Ziggens, you may not be old enough to remember the days of the 55 mph national speed limit in the US.

It didn't work out so good. In fact, by 1987 it was generally acknowledged to have been a failure and congress repealed it. It might make sense for congested urban areas, but I defy you to keep your car's speedometer at 55 miles per hour driving through, say, Nebraska, Wyoming or Montana. Nobody obeyed that law, it led to an unreasonable number of speeding tickets and many jurisdictions (like the aforementioned three states) were really lax about enforcing it anyway.

The thing is, the highway system is designed for quick and efficient travel between destinations, and by "quick and efficient" that means, safe and effective at reasonable speeds. Reasonable speeds do not mean 55 MPH or less on a four to six lane road, any more than they mean 100+ MPH or more on those roads.

Regarding Lamborghini, while the Countach was every kid's dream car in the 1970's and 80's- I mean, come on, the thing looked like a space ship out of a "Star Wars" movie- I personally prefer the early 70's Lamborghini- the precursor to the Countach. It looked sort of like a Corvette, only lower, swoopier, and more muscular. The Countach was cool, but the 1970 Mura had that timeless, classic styling that would look good in any era. With V 12 power and a top speed of nearly 192 mph, it was easily the fastest car on the road at that time.
