Monique1971 creates a time paradox and everyone wears a bandana

The other day I was walking by the river and I saw a bottle with a note in it. Im not curious by nature, but I had some time to kill so I thought I might as well uncork it and see what was written inside. Before I sat down I scouted the area a bit to make sure on one was spying on me. Satisfied, I found a bench I liked (sturdy, with a mostly in-tact paint job) removed the cork, dumped the letter (and some sea water) into my palm, and unrolled the little scroll. Here's what it said:

"To whoever finds this- Hi! Im stuck on this island and totally fucked. Can you at least tell me anything awesome? Sincerely, Stranded Friend"

I felt bad. My stranded friend had neglected to tell me anything about the island, or how I could possibly set about the process of making a stranded friend a Safe At Home Friend. So, unable to help in any substantial way, I wrote back.

"Dear Stranded Friend - So sorry to hear of your circumstances. Everything I know about being stranded suggests that it isn't such a good time. But I think you should have a more positive attitude about your situation. Sure, you seem to be 'fucked' right now, but who knows what tomorrow will bring? To answer your question, I can tell you one awesome thing: there is this chick Monique who is awesomely sexy, and she has this gorgeous body. I'd do anything to get next to her, if you catch my drift. If you were here I'd suggest you check her out, but I bet they don't have internet on the island where you're stranded. Anyway, I have go to to a bake sale. Keep your chin up! Sincerely, TastyTooter"

I dropped my note in the bottle, corked it back up, and tossed it in the river, thinking I'd done my good deed for the day and expecting never to hear from my new Stranded Friend ever again. Imagine my surprise, then, when I took my afternoon stroll by the river the following week and saw a familiar bottle, bobbing along the shore, with a letter inside. I grabbed it and read hastily.

"Wait...THE Monique? Monique1971?? Answer me this: what was your first cat's name?"

Intrigued, I wrote back as before:

"King Paw-Paw the II, Sovereign of the South Bedford Cat Society. Why?"

To make a rather long story short, it turned out that my Stranded Friend was actually me from the future. Apparently I'd taken...or will take, I guess, a flirtatious cue from Monique a bit too close to heart and ended up swimming across a rather dangerous sea to an island where I believed we would love in coconutty paradise forever, completely disregarding the fact that I've already received a warning from my future self not to do this. When I discover she isn't there, I send a note through a time-portal/whirlpool to my past self, asking for awesome news. I tried to take preventative measures by purchasing a motorboat and having it delivered to the secret island, but apparently it was intercepted by pirates or whales, something aquatic for sure.

I'm still in touch with myself; we have a lovely correspondence about Monique and life in general. And I'm really excited to get lost on the island and start my own exchange with my future/past young-self. I bet he'll have an interesting, thoughtful take on contemporary politics.

So thank you, Monique1971, for introducing me to myself, and myself, and myself.
