Here's a suggestion for the contrast issue: Open the Curves editor (Image>Adjustments>Curves...) and hit the Auto button. If your image is Grayscale this will set the white and black points to pure white and pure black (although I prefer to then adjust the upper and lower points to something less than 255 and 0). Then play with the points in the upper and lower thirds of the curve to see what you can do with the contrast. Be careful not to overdo it. Have fun!

I do think these are better than your last thread. I like the B&W. (Watch out for the distracting backgrounds, though.)

I know what you mean about the backgrounds. I need a tripod. I can get myself into decent light, but then I'm limited by the necessity of placing the camera on a windowsill or similar household fixture. It's annoying.
