I've loved that song for years. It's so melancholy, though.

I'd love to come over and hang with you on this day of independence.
That it is. I'm a huge Elvis C. fan, and King of America is one of my favorite albums. As long as I'm on an Elvis/Youtube kick, I ran across this nugget last night. Another melancholy song, but what the heck--"Crazy" with Elvis, Diana Krall, and Willie Nelson is tough not to post.

In the nineteenth century people seriously celebrated this holiday. Hours of speeches, ceremonial readings of the Declaration, top hats.

In the twentieth century people began driving around to celebrate this holiday. And grilling outdoors, because as soon as Americans got technologically advanced enough to not have to cook over an open flame, they decided they had to cook over an open flame.

In the twenty-first century no one really cares anymore.

When I was a little girl, we would get those big boxes of fireworks made by some Godforsaken indentured servants in Taiwan or something. My dad would go berserk and set them all off in the driveway. Then California outlawed those things, and my dad started working on the Fourth.

Personally, I'm celebrating the birthday of freedom in my office, catching up on a pile of email accumulated over the last few weeks.
Well said, Monique. It's funny how the BBQ became so attractive once people didn't have to do it anymore.

I'm sorry you have to work, but you've got company--I need to spend half the day writing myself. If your office has a spare computer and a couch (or desk) for "breaks"... ;)

Hi Monique:)
Happy 4th to you and yours :rose:
Hope you're having a good day
Catch you soon for a chat  :rose:

Okay so I was laying here, getting myself off and was seeking some inspiration from these threads and landed in yours. This is the pic that most did it for me:

My GOD that is the sexiest pic ever! The pose, the hair...all of it. I hope you don't mind a woman telling you that but it's true :) So thanks for the assist this morning!

Of course I don't mind a woman telling me that! Thank you ever so much for the compliment, and I'm glad I was able to help out.

I don't have a couch but there's a big armchair.

I loved, loved, loved the "Crazy" video. Much better than the one from the 1992 presidential election where Ross Perot danced around.

Seriously, that's one of my favorite songs ever and how indeed can you go wrong with that combo? Thanks for sharing, sweetheart.

You're in Ireland, and yet you know that it's a holiday here! How nice is that?!

What are the odds I don't mind when women say it either. ;)

Happy 4th babe.

Sounds like it'd serve the purpose well enough. ;)

Ewww, I'd forgotten about that Perot moment. I'm glad you liked the video, though. And I'm happy to (ahem) share with you any time, gorgeous.

I do like to keep those fine 90s memories coming back. Remember Perot's running mate: "Who am I, and why am I here?"

You get a prize if you can remember his name. No cheating with google or wikipedia, now!
