Reading Evan Connell's Son Of The Morning Star, Dee Brown's Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, Stephen Ambrose's Crazy Horse and Custer, and Robert Utley's The Lance And The Shield left me with a fascination for the Black Hills, the Little Big Horn, the Lakota, Minneconjou, Sans Arcs, Cheyenne, Blackfeet, Brule, et al. I own a copy of the recent abridged edition of Edward Curtis' astounding images, titled North American Natives. Curtis, alone, is an astonishing story in and of its self.
