Moral Conundrums

#18 Are people obligated to be good Samaritans? Why or why not?

I believe it is how I was raised. I am for the most part a decent Samaritain... I try to show my kids that compassion and caring for others, whether we know them or not, is a good thing. I try to instil that in them by my actions.

But obligated...I just don't know.

:D You are that. Vitriolic Babe. Sounds like the name of a cool rock band.

Yeah. My bad for stirring it too much. I promise to not feed the troll anymore.
No worries. No reason to apologize o me. I just found it kind of funny and ironic is all
Soz. I promise to be a good gurl too Clowns. Real good ;)

Not on Lit though :p

TEASE!!! Whenever you want to prove that statement I am right here

#19. A madman who has threatened to explode several bombs in crowded areas has been apprehended. Unfortunately, he has already planted the bombs and they are scheduled to go off in a short time. It is possible that hundreds of people may die. The authorities cannot make him divulge the location of the bombs by conventional methods. He refuses to say anything and requests a lawyer to protect his fifth amendment right against self-incrimination. In exasperation, some high level official suggests torture. This would be illegal, of course, but the official thinks that it is nevertheless the right thing to do in this desperate situation. Do you agree? If you do, would it also be morally justifiable to torture the mad bomber’s innocent wife if that is the only way to make him talk? Why?

I would give an evacuation order for the city. I would then strap a bomb (non functioning but he wouldn't know it) to him and suggest that he may want to consider cooperating. At that point if he's still stubborn I would bring in his wife do the same to her - I wouldn't tell her that the bomb was non functioning - just in the event that a subtle look from her would tip him off.

Depending on the level of torture I don't know that I would have a problem w/ it. For me it ultimately comes down to "how many innocent lives could be saved by inflicting momentary torture on one"

There's physical torture and then there's psychological torture. Would I torture an innocent person to get the guilty party to talk? No.

But, it is possible to manipulate the situation in such a way that the guilty party would reveal the location of the bombs and not harm the innocent.

OK, I agree, but how about this.
We know there are bombs planted in public places, in fact we know the number.
I'd evacuate.
One option would be to take him to various public places. If he gets nervous, look hard there. And keep him in these places, if nothing else, he'll share his victims fate.

I like the idea but it depends on the city size don't you think? If it is NYC you could be in a lot of trouble.

Not necessarily a moral conundrum but I like the question none the less:

#20 Let's say you could change genders for one week. What 3 things would you like to experience being a member of the opposite sex?

(1) I'd love to masturbate as a woman.

(2) repeat #1 twice more...:D

I'm not much for "conventional" methods, so I'd tie him up, give him a syrup enema, and then stake him out on top of a red ant hill. He should willing to talk in a matter of minutes when the ants start to eat him alive from the inside out. No need to bother his wife.

3 things.. hmmm..
1. I think the ultimate curiosity would include.. what does it feel like to orgasm as the opposite sex. I'd have to include that one.
2. I would show up at work as a male nurse to see if I'm treated any differently.
3. I would sit in the men's locker room to see what they really talk about.

#12 (Page 9) Your worst enemy is being sentenced to death and you are the only person who can clear their name. Do you come forward to save their life, or do you let them die because of all the pain and misery they caused you?

I'd intervene on his behalf. Maybe he'll learn something from me.

I guess the obvious:
1. Sex. I think for that week, I'd be some kind of slut. :D To quote BNL, "I'll be that girl." - "I'd start by removing all my clothes and tie my panty hose around my neck."
2. Get all dolled up and dress provocatively to see the heads turn.
3. I'm assuming that my mind for that week would somehow be different, and I'd take notes to myself so that I would be able to better understand.

3. Yes your mind would be different for that week and you'd never see things incorrectly again after that. ;)

1. I'd be a slutty man 'ho.
2. Being insensitive and not feel those feelings all the time.
3. Find out what men REALLY gossip about.

Um we don't....much. :D

I saw this a bunch of years ago...I think it's apropos to this conundrum:

Her side of the story:

He was in an odd mood when I got to the bar, I thought it might have been because I was a bit late but he didn't say anything much about it.

The conversation was quite slow going so I thought we should go off somewhere more intimate so we could talk more privately.

We went to this restaurant and he was still acting a bit funny. I tried to cheer him up and started to wonder whether it was me or something else. I asked him, and he said no.

But I wasn't really sure. So anyway, in the cab on the way back to his flat, I said I loved him and he just put his arm around me. I didn't know what the hell that meant because you know he doesn't say it back or anything.

We finally get back to his place and I was wondering if he was going to dump me!

So I tried to ask him about it but he just switched on the TV. Reluctantly, I said I was going to bed. Then after about 10 minutes, he Joined me in bed and we had sex.

But he still seemed really distracted, so afterwards I just wanted to leave but I just cried myself to sleep.

I dunno, I just don't know what he thinks anymore. I mean, do you think he's met someone else???

His side of the story:

Yankees lost. Tired. Bit drunk. Got laid though.

Especially the last part. "Got laid, though."

Here's another one I've heard. Men have two modes - hungry and horny. If your man doesn't have a hard-on, make him a sandwich.

Yes, the "Got laid, though.", was kind of like an afterthought and it made it all better to an otherwise crappy day.

I would put the theory of is it really easier for a woman to get laid than a man theory to test
Pee outside standing up cause i could
And gym locker room thinking of all the free eye candy

You'd learn quickly that checking out eye candy in the locker room is a no-no, it's in the men's union by-laws.
