Cora kept giving him small caresses for some time, rubbing his wrist with her thumb, and petting his shoulder where she had her own arm up over his back. It was hot outside, almost stifling so, but for the moment she didn't mind it so much.
A long while passes as she just stares out into the trees. When she was a very young child, the woods had always comforted her whenever she was upset and just needed to think. The sound of the wind rustling the leaves and birds singing their songs to each other was like a gentle melody that let her space out, settling her thoughts into something easier to follow and work through, and it was no different now.
She knew they had to keep moving. They couldn't just stay here at the cabin, though god, she wished they could. Eventually things would get harder though, and eventually winter would come. Not to mention they needed to prepare for when they ran out of food. They either had to start learning how to farm properly, or become very good at hunting and gathering; possibly both. And herself, she needed to learn.
The sound of Daphne's breathing, wet and struggling, was still so fresh in her mind. She needed to learn about medicine. Learn everything she could, so that next time, maybe...maybe she could actually help someone.
She didn't know she had nodded off, the summer heat making her languid and relaxed, and her gentle caresses slowing until her hands finally came to a stop. Her head rested partly on her shoulder, partly against his head, her eyes closed and her breathing soft.
