Morning Coffee

God, ya just gotta have a good coffee!!

Moccona Espresso, or Kenya does it for me :D

Also, Indulgence... that's my fave, but save that one for when I really need a pick up.

Not sure if you guys have Moccona coffee over there... I'm willing to send samples LOL

:p

damn you people are a bunch of snobs.

gimme folgers if its on sale. ill put about half a pound into the drip and suck it down...its good for what ails ya.

my sister, one of you elitest snobs, prefers the crap that cost 30 a pound...*rolling eyes* whatevah!

the only difference that makes it taste better to me is the fact that i dont have to make it...yannow...everything tastes better if you dont have to make it yourself.

so, gimme your tired, your wretched beans yearning to brew free...ill embrace it and brew it, perc it, drip it all day long.

my 2 pennies.

Vella, I'm a GI. If it's brown, semi-liquid, and you tell me it's "coffee," I'll drink it.

That doesn't mean that I can't appreciate GOOD coffee when I encounter it -- or even prefer good coffee to yesterday's reheated left-over deisel fuel.

I used to use Maxwell House beans, ground at the time of brewing; but I discovered Kalossi. I still want heartier stuff first thing in the morning, but Kalossi is so fine and mellow.

The differences in soil, climate, variety, roast and preparation all make an impact. They're different. Taste and try, best beloved. Just don't do it at Starbuck's. They roast it all so fuckin black at Starbuck's you can hardly tell what you have in the cup.

<nod>
There's, I would assume it's still there, large warehouse building in San Francisco that we toured one time. (Well, I think it was a tour. Maybe it was just shopping and we followed a little selfguided tour that talked about the history of coffee and of this particular company's role in the importing and marketing of coffee. <shrug>) But I remember they had umpteen different types of beans...some already ground into different blends, but almost all available to be bought by themselves or mixed into whatever ratios you wanted to put them to.

Coffee gives me severe indigestion. A big no-no.

My eldest son just got back from a holiday to Tunisia, brought me a bag of loose tea. On the outside it says The Vert, which to me is Green Tea. He assures me its supposed to be Mint Tea.

We'll see what it really is when I can pluck up the courage to try it. I am not a fan of green tea.

Me either, give me some standard black and orange pekoe, boiling water, some milk (or cream if I must), and sugar...maybe some buttered toast to dip in it if I need to eat something...

But of course...how else can you hold the cup properly? Without an extended pinky the whole thing is totally unbalanced...

....or is that just me? <g>

I have a flair for Kenyan coffee myself. I actually have no idea what brand and roast it is. My local store sells alot of imported shit, and I stumbled over it because they had too much of it once, needed to clear out some shelve space, and handed out free bags. Never looked back since.

Agreed, with reservations. Kenya AA is yummy stuff if not too dark.

The first pot or cup in the morning has to have caffeine, no adulterants like other flavorings, and especially it must be the same as the last morning and the morning before. Consistent is important!

But I play around trying things the rest of the time. Which is how I found the Kalossi.:D I use a Breakfast Blend thing, currently from Green Mountain. It is always available, which Kalossi isn't.

Tea.

I like black tea. Pekoe, Oolong, or Souchong. Plain and dark. For my muslim and Vegan friends I make mint tea. Evidently mint tea is a big thing in Morocco. But the best is Lapsang Souchong. Not everyone will agree on that, so I often have it alone.

A coffee tale

Once, several years ago, I used to meet with a regular bunch of friends from a computer BBS (Telegard/Renegade type, if that means anything to anyone) and play AD&D. During the usual breaks, we would snack and discuss anything that might come to mind other than gaming.

One day...well, evening...a couple of the players decided to brew some coffee since it'd been a few hours since their last cups, and they drank it all day long. This lead to a round of coffee related stories that ran the gamut from the basic ("So I was in the coffeebar and they didn't have anything that wasn't all frou-froued up...") to the, for them, horrifying ("And y'know wha' she did? She washed my cup!" <roomful of resounding gasps>)

Then Steve took the floor.

"On the last series of games we ran on the sub I just transferred from, we got sent on a final run that was unexpected. Somehow, we muddled through without having to resort to much in the way of hardship...although the cooks were keeping a strict tab on the provisions in the galley.

We pulled into port, and I happened to be talking to Jones, who ran the galley, and complimented him on having the forethought to have extra supplies for such an occasion. He shrugged and said, 'We do what we can. Just wish I'd had a better idea how much of some of the basics we'd go through on a trip like this.'

'What do you mean?' I asked.

He cut his eyes around us, making sure we weren't overheard. 'We ran out of coffee three days ago. I had the lower cooks scavange every coffeemaker in every private office the length of the ship, tossed any grounds they brought back into the main brewer in the mess, and just kept running water through it.'"

I had a friend who grew up on a farm, and he told me about a hired hand who used to sprinkle ground coffee on his breakfast cereal for an extra boost in the morning.

I had another friend who was cramming for finals and tried snorting espresso grounds.

Desperate times call for desperate solutions, I guess.

Not a bad taste, actually :D

That’s a great idea! Why not combine a cigarette and coffee in one simple nicotine/caffeine delivery system? A cofferette!

Years ago they came out with Waterford cigarettes that had some sort of water filter. You crushed the filter between your fingers to release the water and then you inhaled the smoke through it. Why not do the same with coffee? Get your ‘feine and ‘tine at the same time?

A mini-bong!

They ought to market the filters for home rolling....

oops

But running out of coffe is a tragedy. The fire house was prone to that, because the boys were not rich and the supply was a joint responsibility. After beating yourself to death at a fire, a cuppa joe is worth its weight in twat.

Ah, anecdotes from Gamers-ville.

Been there.

We like coffee, too.

Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!! And I couldn't resist a big larf. P. ;)

The debt I owe to Cuba: cafe con leche. A double-shot of high-octane pressed coffee, blended with hot milk and too much sugar. I know it sounds disgusting to the coffee purist. I, too, was a skeptic.

There's a Vietnamese restaurant that serves espresso poured over sweetened condensed milk. Same idea, but with the grains floating around in there for bitterness and kick.

Cafe con leche and Vietnamese coffee are proof that too much of a good thing is just enough.

perfect idea!
however, it would be promptly "sin" taxed and unavailable to the poor who would then sell their babies for the next hit.

Did you think you were in the Corrupt Wish thread? You, of all people, should really appreciate what Doc's trying to do here. Think of all the places you could smoke then without ever having to light up.

;)

damnit youre right.. i was thinking this was the corrupt wish thread. the problem was that i didnt have enough caffeine!
this will never do... must ingest much!

Ugh, what a combo! Some things just DON'T mix well for me. Coffee and cigs, yes (way back when I smoked). OJ, milk, and toothpaste never sat well with the taste of cigs.

Time to make another pot of my generic coffee ...

I wasn't necessarily suggesting them together, but the cardinal NON-MIXER is O.J. and toothpaste. Blech!

I'm just not a coffee drinker. Rarely do any caffeine at all, really. Believe me, I'm quite 'perked' as it is on a normal basis.
