I walk in the front door of the local coffee shop I go in every morning on the way to my studio. I see you behind the counter as you always are readying various orders for different customers. I have often wondered what you would look like staring back at me from the other side of my canvas. your beautiful form laid out before, every ounce of professional fortitude keeping me in line. My wedding ring and my endless line of commissioned work keeps me from pushing the issue. I step up to the counter , lay down my sketch pad and ready myself to order my drink.

Paige had been at the coffee shop since 5 am. Catching the early trade was important to business and there had been a steady stream since they opened at 6 am. Though it obviously felt early for some, this was in fact the 3rd stream of trade where those who were heading for a 9 pm start dropped in to grab a coffee.

Of course about a third of her clientele were 'occasional' and dropped in when passing as an impulse buy, but for 2/3 of her customers were 'regulars' and came in at least 3 times a week, whilst a small minority made a daily visit at the same time each day; a loyalty she went out of her way to reward with the best service she could manage.

Seeing one such regular, Paige turned rapidly from her prepping of the coffee machine and gave a dazzling smile to the man who stood before her. He was a daily caller and usually took his coffee away with him.

"What can I get you? The usual?"

She asked.

Memorising the preferences of the regular custom base also helped foster loyalty.
