Mutants (non x-men)

Lucas

Heading uptown, I decide to stop by and see the Abacus. His is one of only two banks in town and I've been putting away whatever I don't need with him since he opened for business.

I dig the old, dog eared piece of paper out of my wallet that has my account number written on it. Walking up to one of the windows, I ask the teller how much I have.

She disappears into the back office for a moment and comes back. The amount she has written on the piece of paper sure seems to have a lot of zeros in it. It's been so long since I've actually dealt in cash, I'm not sure, but seems to me to be quite a bit.

I ask if Abacus is around. He must have heard me, for he walks in, a bandy rooster type of guy with thinning hair and a big dome of a head.

We chat for a few minutes and I tell him about Violet, that I want her to be able to draw on my account as she needs. He nods and says he knows her, says it will be fine. I sign a form to make it all official and wave to him as I leave, having promised him an invitation to the wedding.

I don't know a lot about weddings, and I hope Violet will be able to guide me in whatever it is I'm supposed to do. I do know I will need a best man. I know, at least casually, quite a few people but figure maybe I ought to talk to Violet before going to far with my own ideas of a guest list.

Strikes me about then that maybe Vincent might make a good best man. I close my eyes and sniff, trying to see if I can find him.

I meandered down the street and by the time I reached my bank my skin was a translucent amethyst color. I had made it a policy not to get personally involved with anyone who I had 'touched' it made for a lonely life, but less pain of being used. I blinked away the image, and inwardly cursed the old Genotians.

I felt Lucas's presence and smiled.

The scent I catch, is Violet's. I turn and see her heading for the bank. Grinning, I turn to see her about to enter the bank.

I follow Violet inside, noticing her skin is lighter now than earlier. Coming up beside her, she looks at me before I reach out and touch her hand. She's felt my presence, I suspect and I put my hand around hers for a gentle squeeze.

"Hi, darlin'" I say, "what did you find out at the dressmakers?"

Violet

"First a week is barely enough time to finish a dress, secondly, the price is not in money." I frown slightly, "We'll have to discuss that over dinner, shall we meet at Mama Pierre's?"

I smile and kiss Violet on the cheek. I get the feeling she has plans she wants to see through and would rather I made myself scarce for a bit.

"Okay, Mama Pierre's it is. I'll catch up with you there, say about six?"

I wait for Violet to tell me if this is enough time.

Violet

"I'll see you then," I seem a bit distracted as I walk away lost in my thoughts.

Lucas

I'm a bit puzzled by Violet's distraction, and more than a little concerned. Yet, I can recognize when someone needs space. So I give her a gentle kiss on the cheek and a squeeze of the hand, then head out the door.

I meditate a bit and talk to the few friends I have in town before heading back to Mama Pierre's my skin a pale alabaster as I enter the amazingly cool restaurant

I've been uptown to make some deals for fresh meat with the butcher, then wandered around a bit, looking for old friends. Not too many out right now, which puzzles me. Almost as if there's something in the air, some sense of tension that is thick as lightning.

I walk back towards Mama Pierre's, puzzling over what has Violet in such a brown study and the general atmosphere of the town. I can't just shrug it off, even as I step into the restaurant and catch a whiff of Violet's scent.

I find her in the darkness and kiss her on the cheek.

"Hi, lovely lady," I say to her, smiling. "Shall we grab a bite?"

Her skin is paler than earlier as we are escorted to a table. We sit and menus are placed before us. Violet still looks distracted.

I reach over and take her hand in mine.

"Want to talk about it, love?" I ask her.

Violet

"Just distracted a bit, the price of the wedding gown might be a little too high. She wants to cure her mutation." I pause, my mind thinking over it all. "I'm not sure I could do it, or would even if I could."
