"Right" seems to be a popular topic. You have the right to post an opinion, and I have the right to tell you you're wrong. We all get that, but still we get upset when people disagree with us, and we say so, loudly, creating more repsonses from people reminding us that everyone has a "right" to their opinion so don't get so upset.

Well, and I mean this in the nicest way, I've always felt that the whole "don't get upset when someone disagrees with you" thing was monkey shit. If someone is dead on stupid, cruel, or confesses to accessory in a murder, um, I might just get loud, too.

Telling someone who disagrees with you that they're an asshole has nothing to do with squelching their "right" to an opposing viewpoint. It's just telling them they're an asshole, and, usually, they are.

Of course, that's just my opinion. And if you disagree, well, you know what you are...

I think this thread hides an even deeper issue. It's not so much as who is the bigger hypocrite, it's really about people being afraid of saying what's on their mind without being flamed. I think there comes a point when we do get fed up with the bullshit and no longer care what people think about them and I think that Nicole has just reached her limit. The only difference between the rest of us VS. Lasher or Deborah is that their bullshit tolerance is lower than most.
Believe me Nicole, I have been at that point a few times myself.

I thought that was the point in having an anonymous forum; that you could say ANYTHING safly behind your mask. That unless you chose to reveel yourself, you would never held responcable for what you say, at least in 'real life'.

We develop on-line personalities that we assocaite with, and seek to defend, regardless of the fact that what happens here will not affect our 'real life'.

WE also make freinds. And the freinds made here are unique because of the anonymity. These folks don't care if you're 550 pounds, bald with a port wine stain bleminsh covering half your face. If you tell 'em you're beautiful, you are. They will not directly help you get a job, or lose one. The friends that are made here fall in love with your mind, your ideas, your ability to manipulate the language. And prehaps that is the finest sort of freind to have.

For that reason, we will fight wars with our words, to defend our friends. Yes, ofcourse we will defend our selves, but we save our most scathing missives to defend our friends, and that is as it should be.

I think it's funny that we all yearn for "the good ol' days" - when the board was wonderful and every single thread was interesting & insightful and only the "good" people posted and flowers bloomed and birds sung operas... What's funny is that if you go back and look in the archives, people have been pining for "the good ol' days" since the board began!

When, exactly, was this magical time when the board was so great? We've had trolls, arguments, silliness - everything we have now. For the zillionth time (and if I weren't lazy, I'd go back and dig up every post I'd made on this subject and repost them, just to make my point), NOTHING has changed except your own perception.

The board's more negative than ever? Three words to the old-timers: Cum Taste thread. 'Nuff said.

You know, I'm starting to feel like a broken record player. (Remember those? For you young'uns, they played discs larger than CD's and sometimes the needle would skip and repeat the same sounds over and over again, hence my simile...oh, never mind...) Anyone who's been here for any length of time has heard me sound off on this subject. You know why? Because at least once a month since this board began, someone has started at least one thread pining for that wonderful Utopia that the board once represented, before that moment when The Newbies/The Trolls/The Silly Posters/Whoever The Devil Is Today came in and it all went to shit.

Funny thing is that now The Newbies from 6-8 months ago - the ones that supposedly turned the board to shit back then - are now complaining about Newbies. What a world!

I know that once again everyone will ignore my post. But you know what? I'm right. Wait 6 months, and watch everyone talk about that grand and glorious time in October 2000 when the board was so great, and how in spring 2001 the board sucks and blah blah blah...and I'll make yet another post, and everyone will pretend they didn't read it, and on and on and on...

.I for one, like to come here and have fun... I will respond to a serious thread if I have some thoughtful or useful information to respond with, I like to go to the fun threads just to laugh and be stupid with the rest of you.. yet I don't go into the threads that I know don't interest me, and when a subject leads me to believe it's something good and I get in there and see it's something that is just there to get a reaction... I DON'T REPLY... because I don't want to encourage any more posts like that... what a concept huh?

And Laurel yes you are right, when I disappeared about 5 mos. ago the oldies then were complaining about we newbies..for having an auction in one of the threads... and you said it all before so many times... that things don't change .. just the ppl and their ideas do.

And you are right,six months from now we will be going through it all again... but I also remember you asking on one of your posts what anyone could suggest to improve the board and not too many ppl had any ideas... actually I don't think one of the complainers even replied..did they?

I also have to once again say that I do agree with Nicole.. it's not so much that you either agree or don't agree with a post, the annoying thing is that over and over and over again, in each post the same few ppl feel the need to tell you what and how to post and when. That is why I said, they are hypocrytical.. if they are constantly repeating themselves about correcting the board by not posting so much, then why are they posting so much to tell us how to correct it? Did that make sense??? Aww fuck it, you know what I mean.


Rules for the BB Fall 2000 are:

1. Don't tell ppl what to post, or how to post;

2. Don't tell ppl how many threads they can or cannot start;

3. Remember that if you don't like someone you don't have to respond to them;

4. If you don't like a subject don't read it.

Here's my new rules for the Bulletin Board:

1) Everyone may only post 6.5 posts in any 24 hour time period.

2) Every post must be submitted to committee to make sure it is of high quality, then it will be voted upon to insure that everyone agrees with the contents therein.

3) No flirting or silliness will be allowed, nor will any fighting or disagreement. Everyone post be neutral and non-emotional, yet insightful and thought-provoking.

4) Everyone posting must provide a driver's license number, home address, and blood sample (for DNA purposes) so that I can make sure each user is unique and thus eliminate trolls.

Let me know what you all think! I think these new rules will solve all the "problems", don't you?

Oh, no. I think the post number is way too high. What if we would have the committee give out post chits based on the quality of posts submitted? That way people would have to earn the right to post.... Kinda like a pay-for-play type deal....

LMAO... You might be able to prove that they're different people, but some of'em will never be unique!! Hehehe...

It's a nice start, Laurel, but I still think you need to be more authoritarian with your rules. The whole committee thing seems a little weak... Maybe you need to appoint one BB Czar to rule over everything...

Or, maybe, get a whole checks and balances thing going. Two rival committees that need to agree on the quality of a post, and then the BB Czar to make the final decision... Give the committees full power to revise any post before it's allowed to be posted to the board... Hmmmm....

What started this whole shit flinging contest was a post on another board stated on page one. Now, wouldnt it have been a much wiser course of action (if the story is true) to have pursuaded her to go to the authorities rather then making a quote that could not be deleted but could be used as evidence! Could she have had sound reasons as to why she did not? Would you want someone like that angry with you even if it were an accident? Would you be sure it was an accident? Are you sure the post is true? No one knows or even cared to find out, but they sure as hell butt slammed her.

First I dont care what is said on the boards. People make up things just to get a reaction. I also am not here to judge. Yes, I care about what may have happened. But wouldnt you feel foolish if an investigation came about and this whole thing just started because the intent was to get a rise out of every one! So we are back to square one. Convince her to do the right thing. I dont know Nicole, I dont know the people who condemned her. But I know I dont like the personal attacks I have been seeing the last couple of weeks.

So, Nicole if it is true I do say go to the authorities, it is never too late. If it is not true, dont say a damn thing now. Let this stew in peoples craw!
