I would agree with you, conservatives do and have in the past try to link them together in a way detrimental to LGBT people. What he's saying here is different, that he thinks liberals in the future will be linking them together in an accepting way which he/I/most people don't approve of.

The reason I associate it with Liberals is because I used to listen to The Atheist Experience, which is a television show in Houston, TX where people call in and discuss general topics regarding religion and atheism.
