Money talks, BS walks - and something’s mighty fishy going on here.

Do you think Nancy Pelosi will sell her stock in Facebook after they refused to take down the doctored video of her being drunk?

Better yet, why does she even have stock in a company she’s accusing of enabling Russian interference in our elections anyway?

Both the repubs and the dems have been manipulating the stack market for years along with engaging in insider trading. Pelosi isn't alone in this regard, just that as speaker she can exert more influence.

Here's how it works. The party in power will introduce a bill that either punishes or rewards some industry. The bill will make it through some various committees. Depending on whether the bill rewards or punishes they call their broker the night before the floor vote and either put in a buy order or sell short. The vote is taken, the market reacts, and they were ahead by hours. Sometimes the very threat of the legislation is enough to move the markets. And if they know that the bill is going to fail (and they know 99% of the time) they can put in a buy or sell order as appropriate in anticipation of the markets reaction.

The point being is that any stock owned by any congress critter can be in play at any given time. And that's the primary reason that those that have been there any length of time leave wealthier than when they were first elected. term limits is the only antidote and they will NEVER vote for the constitutional amendment required for that to happen.

I see that Nancy Pelosi has the Trumpettes all atwitter and scared shitless--and making up false and despicable shit. Good sign she's doing her job well. :D

As I recall at one point members of Congress were specifically is exempt from accusations of insider trading. It seems like some piece of legislation was passed that was supposed to patch that hole but I don't remember the details.

Actually a law was passed prohibiting insider trading by congress is reaction to what happened in late 2008. Some members of congress were briefed by the Bush admin. re. the dire condition of the banks. Upon leaving the briefing they immediately put in sell orders. Word got out and in 2012 a law was passed prohibiting such activity. Like all other such laws there are ways around it.

HOWEVER;

That law does nothing to hinder the trading that goes on WRT proposed legislation and that's where the real money is made. Not in transient events.

One of many

The right had to doctor a video of Pelosi to make it appear she was slurring her words.

BTW, is this a cognitive failure?
You know, if you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID. You go out and you want to buy anything, you need ID and you need your picture,

This is all part of our long-running discussions about the nature of the efficacy of government interferences in the market and judiciary with the ever politically popular rush to "regulation."

I don't think about her much but she was a looker back in the day. I'd probably still hit it once just to say I did.
