First Great Work?
:rose:

Did you look that up in a paper dictionary? or was that all your own work, Page ;)

I have begun the great work of this two week period when Piglet is away! I don't mean emptying out the fish tank (again) and filling it properly so we can put fish in it when she gets back (and moving it and the shelves it rests on into her 'den' so we don't have to turn off the bubbly noisy thing whenever we get to a quiet romantic scene in a film). I have started to bring in the last of my books from the garage! Then I will have to take all the books off the shelves, and buy some new shelves from IKEA, and build up the shelving, and put the books ALL back into the shelves.

Might take a bit longer than two weeks ...

(BTW, when I said I only have a poxy part=time job, I of course meant my paid job - not my 24/7 job as Mum  Still remember how hard I had to bite my sarcastic tongue when the Fella complained that he wanted to be Main Parent on the school form. "Honey, that is not a job title people aspire to be promoted to, like Professor or Chairman of the Board - if you want to be the one who goes and buys all the school uniform, and gets the narky letter because you bought the wrong colour socks, and is phoned by the school in the middle of a meeting because your piglet feels a bit icky in the tummy - go for it! No? I didn't think so ...")

Actually... I think it means First Big Ice Cream. It's a while since I had to conjugate and I hope the Brolene is working. Sometimes I get really dry eyes and that feels like sandpaper but there's no infection so the drops just aggrevate it. The warm dry winds we've had this week have made mine sore

It took me a moment to see that joke, but [at last] the penny dropped in the end.

I've had some trouble with dry eyes, too. My optician recommended "Systane" which, apparently, features all three of the liquids to be found in a tear. I certainly works for me.

Oh thanks - that's useful to know. My supply of precious man-tears is nearly exhausted ;) Bad jokes aside, I'll look out for that at the chemist. I've tried the Optrex mist-thing, which works but is mega-expensive. There's the saline solution that is used for contact lenses and that's pretty good. My eyes are sore now, but I know that's because I've been outside all day in the wind. x

Another is Hypromellose Eye Drops, but, whilst being slightly cheaper, does not work so well in my eyes.

:D:D:D That's particularly funny for a reason I will tell you about privately, as soon as I can clean up my PM box. Wow! Very cool avatar!!! :rose:

Sorry about the eyes :( Is it worth trying a very small pinch of seasalt in a glass of water? A lot of these eye things just seem to be a 'saline solution' ie salty water. (You must use surprisingly little salt.)

I got up as usual at 6.30, and had a cup of coffee in bed reading over my novel. Then I fell asleep again and only woke up at 9.30! I meant to rush down to the gym for a swim but think I ought not to swim with conjunctivitis, spreading it among all the old ladies in the Bhanghra aqua aerobics class. So I feel curiously free today. I have got a lot to do, as I have remembered I've applied for Fellowship of our teaching academy which means I have to write up something and find referees and stuff. Also I have decided to take the Idiot Line Manager to grievance (again!!!) so I will have to waste time writing up why he is an idiot  and consulting with the union about it. However because I can do it at my own speed, and keep going til late if I want to instead of having to stop and cook someone's tea and make sure their sports socks are dry for first thing tomorrow, I don't feel so stressed about it.

BTW, HP, I have bought an extra pair of sports socks so I never again have to stand around at 7 am with the hairdrier in one hand and a pair of socks in the other to get them ready in time, while Piglet wails that she is going to get detention without them :cathappy: (For anyone who is wondering, the best method is to blow the hot air up the tube of the sock leg, not blow it on a flat sock.)

And as an added bonus for some morning literotica-type inspiration, when you use a hairdryer to blow hot air into a sport sock, it looks like a ... Oh, never mind.

Best wishes with your Fellowship and referees and such!

Thank you, darling!
I'm determined to do this, as I failed to apply for the fee waiver to start my MEd in time :(, so I will have to put off doing that til next February. Which reminds me that I must go and print off the application for the fee waiver for that NOW, so it's in plenty of time.

Macadamia, I mean, academia, the world where all the rules are bound to stacks of paperwork with exquisitely crossed T's and dotted eyes. :D

I'll bet you didn't believe I knew either one of those words. good luck with one and all of your endeavors. Especially nailing the idiots hide to the wall.

Macadamia are nuts, aren't they? :D That would be so appropriate for this idiot line manager! One of my colleagues says he thinks he is on the autism spectrum, it's the only way I can explain some of the weird and wonderful things he has done.

Ugh, I am on page 4 already! So boring! I feel bad inflicting reading this sh!t on the union officers, but imagine what it's like trying to work with this going on around you.

I came in here for a little break, feel so much better for that little bit of encouragement! :rose: and now I must get my little hammer and my rustiest nails

Hello Naoko, my friend, and everyone.

I know some of you, and others I don't, so I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I've been absent from Lit for some time for several reasons, and now I'm writing again and wanting to dip my toes back in to the Author's Hangout. As I love Naoko with all of my heart, and know this to be a friendly space, I will start here, if y'all don't mind me butting in. I just don't think I can handle the murky waters of the rest of the board just yet. ;)

I'll ease myself into these very warm waters, and look forward to chatting with you all. Gorza had started quite an interesting discussion a few pages back, about the presence of humanity in erotica, but I don't think he ever came back to keep the convo going. (Yes, I'm a lurker.) It's been a busy summer all around, I'm guessing.

Thanks, Tio! :rose:

As you'll see, I couldn't resist commenting on the sci-fi question posed by Not Wise. I can't resist discussing sci-fi, it's my main focus right now. :)

Hullo dahlinks! Tio , shea :rose:

I have been posting for a couple of days as Piglet is away so I have more time to myself, and it seems quite friendly out there. There is a nice new game thread on settings and characters. :)

Gah, most of this afternoon I was writing a seven page document on how evil and horrible my Line Manager is, and all the cr@p things he's been doing recently. They are all small things, so maybe the Union will say there isn't really a case there and I have to struggle on with his rubbish management. But when I look at them all, they seem to add up - well, I'll see what they say.

Anyway, the main thing is, that I've done it and sent it off! so I can chill out tomorrow for my 'day off'.

I must cook myself some supper. Shall I get on my bike and go and get that pizza I virtuously didn't buy in the supermarket earlier? or make tempura like I planned to do ...

I feel like seven pages of little things definitely add up to a big problem! I hope they see things your way.

I am still on a very restrictive diet, so the idea of either pizza or tempura or tropical cocktails of any kind have me drooling. Can't you have all of it and I can live vicariously through you? :cattail:

I am sure hungry enough to eat all of it!

It's so great not to have to worry about tomorrow :) I don't have to get up at any time for anyone-else, or think about what to do except for me. Today I woke up at 6.30 and had a cup of coffee and flicked through my novel I'm editing, and then I fell asleep again til 9.30!!! but it didn't matter as I knew I could work on till a bit later tonight.

Anyway, now I must go and make something to eat! Great to see you back here.
:):heart::)

Welcome back, Shea.

Naoko, some days it's best to just go with the flow and be lazy. ;)

How right you were :kiss::rose:

I had the pizza and it was just dandy! shea, if you had been here, I would've bought the bottle of Prosecco to have with it too!

Now I'm going to have a line of the chocolate bar Piglet bought me when I had a tummy upset and couldn't eat anything .... It's the thought that counts :D

Somebody please tell me what CAVA is.

A Spanish sparkling wine?

I went to a writing workshop the other day where he talked about fragmentation in writing and how we read. He argued that we read more today and we shouldn't discount all the things we read online. I must say, this thread us quite good reading. :D

Cava ... Homage to Catalonia, or any one of thousands of restaurant/bars around the world.

Yes, Magi; there does seem to be a bunch of thoughtful writers frequenting these hallowed halls.
