Do birth control pills make some women nauseous to the point where they can't use them ?

Side effects can vary. I know that when I made a change I felt just shitty but my doctor insisted I give it 3 months to see if the side effects would abate. And they did. But if you're feeling that ill, try and make a change in the kind of pills you're taking.

Yeah different brands of pills have wildly different side effects (although nausea was never one of the symptoms I had).

it usually goes away... if you go to a lower hormone birth control it may help..like estrostep fe.

I felt sick for about 3 weeks and had a headache for about 2! For other reasons, I eventually went off the pill. This year, I started on Desogen and absolutely love it! Had a headache for a few days but that's it.

Not every Pill is made equally - you'll have to keep trying until you and your doctor finds a brand for you. Also, you might want to ask to switch to a lower dosage until you get use to it (usually about 2 months)

Yes, but as others have said, it usually goes away, switching pills can do the trick, and taking it with food (a regularly scheduled meal or snack, not an extra one - extra food is why women often report weight gain with the pill) can help dramatically.

After 8 years, I stopped taking BCP because I wasn't feeling well, even though I'd tried many, many brands and the lowest doses. And guess what? I felt much better overall, my migraines decreased from 2-6/month to a couple a YEAR, and my sex drive, lubrication and pleasure increased significantly.

Obviously, the pill isn't right for me, and I'll never go back on it voluntarily. However, I'm in a stable, long-term relationship with a man who's mature enough to actively participate in our reproductive choices and uses condoms when necessary without complaint. If that wasn't the case, I'd probably try something like the NuvaRing (some women report fewer side effects with it) and condoms.

I'm personally one of the ones that it didn't go away for, I was originally on tricycline and had to go to the straight progesterone because a little estrogen was too much. The way I understand it, estrogen (one of the main hormones in the pill) is a major cause of morning sickness. Some women are more sensitive to estrogen than others, so that the amount in the normal pill can cause nausea, headaches, etc. Most people are able to adjust to it and do just fine but a small amount of people can't make that switch. I'd suggest give it time and if they aren't getting better then talk to your dr to see if there's a pill with a smaller estrogen concentration

i really cant remember the names of the ones iv tried over the years, some gave me migrane, some made me bloated, some made me sick, with one particular brand i took i ended up having a constant period, its a very hit and miss thing but if your not happy with the one your taking then dont hang around and feel ill hoping it will stop just go and swap it.

I recommend having your doctor try you out on a different kind, trying them for the three recommended months before switching to another kind if that kind isn't working out for you. I know I lucked out and found a good one the first time around, but from what I have heard many women have to try a couple kinds before they find just the right one.

You could also try a different kind of hormonal birth control such as the patch or the NuvaRing (sp?). You could ask about switching to just progesterone as Sparkler suggested.

My wife is another woman who had bad reactions to the versions of the Pill that she tried. No biggie--we had our kids, so I went and got myself fixed. But it did make me aware that of COURSE, different women have different metabolisms and physiologies...so reactions to the Pill are not uniform.

I know...that should be obvious. But hey, I'm a guy.

Actually The Pill made me very nauseous but then I began to take it at night before I go to bed and all is well.

my bcp used to make me nauseous, but my doc. said to take it before food (ususally dinner or an evening snack) and take some dramamine before bed or if i began to feel nauseous.
