Ok this may sound like a joke but it is not.
I am on some meds for my skin problem. Acutine. It has dried out my oily problem which is fine. But I have had to be on this stuff for 5 months and just about over in a month but my hair went from very oily to dry to now damaged and dry. I can not wash it every day which I had to do before the meds. But I wet it and use condition or serum. However, my hair used to be very very straight and now it is ... not sure how to explain it but very wirey looking. No matter what I do, it looks like I got a bad perm. I am hoping and praying it will straighten out after I am off this stuff, but in the mean time, any suggestions about my hair?

Get yourself some kick-ass conditioner, first of all. That "Garnier Fructosis" or whatever is supposed to be really good. Or you could try a 'hot oil' treatment, if they still even do that...

Maybe go to a really good hairstylist? The kind that charge you thirty to fifty bucks for a haircut? They really, really know their stuff...

Skip the conditioner and go for the moisturizer. I use Moisture Maniac by Bed Head and am very pleased with. (My hair is very thick, dry, and coarse) You could also use a more intensive moisturizer that needs to be left on for a few minutes. I use one by Joico. (These are products that I have to go to a beauty supply to get, btw)

Most conditioners have protein in them which do not moisturize, and it sounds like you need to moisturize here!

I would strongly recommend seeing a hair stylist. There are new products coming out all the time and s/he can offer some ideas to keep this problem under control until you can get off the meds. Could be a newer haircut for the time being? Maybe going to something very short in the interim? A hair stylist would really have the best answer for this.

Good luck!

Thanks for your answer. I will agree with you. I have conditioned the hell out of my hair... even leaving it on for 5 mins only to see when I start to dry it, it starts the perm look. And I have even let it try to dry normal with no blow dry. Nothing seems to help. The longer I have been on this med the worst it has been. And yes I did go to a hair stylist and she sold me the serum stuff .. makes it nice and oily but still wavy looking. And we did cut it short. Not crew cut or skin head short but it was short. And I like that part a bed head. That is when it seems be the worst. Used to be when I would wake up, it looked all tossell.(is that the word?) But now it looks like... pubic hair gone wild. LOL I know that sounds really gross but that is what it looks like. What once was fine straight hair, now looks like wirery long pubic hair. Once I wet it and do all the stuff to it, it goes back to being straight but now it has a funky wave to it. Maybe I should just shave my head! I am getting that frustrated with it. A friend of mine says it is not that bad just looks like I have a wave. She said perm would make me look like I had an afro. Yikes... that is not a look I want for sure! I will try to find this Bed Head stuff. Thanks for the tip sweetie.

Fizz ease. For naturally curly hair. Get the leave in stuff. Works wonders.
Well that is the problem. My hair is very very straight. Or used to be. I have something like frizz eaze. Does not do anything for me. But thanks!

Spenser, I have a couple of ideas. You may have already tried them, but hell -- I have had hair problems for as long as I can remember, just because I move around so much I have to keep on top of what my hair needs in each climate.

Some ideas.

Aussie stuff
- Hair Insurance (spray on leave in conditioner, good stuff)
- 3 Minute Miracle (intensive conditioner, heals my hair way quicklike)
- Moist shampoo and conditioners.

I also have a tube of this stuff from The Body Shop that is called, I think, 'Define and No Frizz'. It's good for straight hair (what I have) as well as curly. Basically, I use it on summer days when I know I'm going to be out in this godawful desert air all day.

I cannot wash my hair daily either -- I will look like I've stuck my whole hand in a high voltage electical socket. And to have long thick straight hair standing STRAIGHT out... well, it just looks silly.

I will raid my cabinets and see if I've missed anything a little later.

Hope that helps a little bit.

WOW THANKS! Some great IDeas and I will check into all of that.
Thank you so much!

I know this will sound gross, but I have a simple home remedy that might work. It won't hurt to try!

Mayonaise.

Yup!

Mayonaise.

Warm some mayo in the microwave for just a few seconds, so that it's not ice cold from your refridgerator. Kinda glob it onto your hair and scalp. Next, get a plastic grocery bag and cover your head with it, like a doo-rag. Then, uh, incubate for about 30 minutes. Wash out in the shower and your hair should be more conditioned.

However...

I would really suggest talking to your doctor. Maybe there is different drug you can try or a different dosage.

Good luck!

You can do a couple of things. One is to get a conditining deep treatment, usually found in the hair sections of stores, or you can go to a salon and have them do a treatment. I like the V05 Hot oil treatments, and they are sround $2-5 bucks at Wal-mart or Meijers.

You know I heard that does work and I will try that. My doctor is very aware of what is going on as I see him every month. This is a 5 month treatment to put this in remission and you can not change the dosage. He suggested shaving or use Bryal Cream. Remember that guys? A little dab will do you? However I do not want to look like a greaser from the 50s. But thanks again for the suggestions.

Lass I did try that and that worked for about a couple of days and then it was back to the curls. I think at this point, I am just going to cut my hair back REALLY REALLY SHORT. I have another month on the treatment and then after I am off for about a month things should start returning back to normal. But thanks for all of the suggestions. Some I am going to try and if it does not work, it is hello SHORT hair. VERY SHORT!
And Lass... nice to see someone from KY. I am in Ashland .. I hope keep hearing from you. I am Irish as well.
