Neighborly Control (closed)

Not looking up from her menu she quietly said, "You know what happens when you assume Michael. You make an ass of you and me. I have plenty things I want to say but right here and now isn't the place for it. Thank you for trying to protect my honor, however if I honestly was worried about my honor I would have never asked you to come with me this evening." She looked up at him and continued. "You better get use to people in your business because as long as you're here with the position you have, you will be everyone's business and if they don't have anything to talk about they will make something up. It's just the way it is in small town America."

Just then their waitress came back to take their order, Robyn waited to see if he was going to pass on eating and just take her back home or if he would try to make the best of the rest of the evening.

Michael bit his tongue. He wasn't going to get into it with Robyn here. He saw the waitress walk up to the table. "I know that I would like to try some of these wings that I have heard are supposed to be so good. Make them hot...as hot as you've got."

He looked at Robyn. "I am sorry. I should have been a gentleman and let you order first. My bad." Michael loud feel his blood pressure boil. He could not believe that she was upset with him because he had tried to do something that was intended to be in her best interest.

Robyn looked up and told Nikki she would have her normal. Nikki just nodded and muttered she had it wrote down already. They handed her their menus and when she was gone Robyn looked over at him and glared at him. She cleared her throat and in the same voice she uses when she is scolding her children in public she said "How dare you think you know what is in my best interest. And how dare you make me feel like I am an embarrassment to you. If I am good enough for you to fuck in the privacy of our homes, then I should be good enough to have supper with you in a restaurant."

She took a long swallow of her beer, picked up her money off the table and went to the bar and ordered two more beers.

Her lecture was all he could take. Once again, she took what he had said as an insult. He stood up and followed her to the bar. He handed money to the bartender and said to him, "this should cover the food we ordered." Then he said to Robyn, "I am going home. here are my keys. Just leave my car in the driveway." He tossed her the keys and he walked out. The long walk home would be good for him. It would clear his head and he would be able to sleep. He was really pissed that what had started out as a nice evening was ending so badly. He learned something about small town living....don't do anything nice to try to protect someone you are going out with.

She stood there in shock. Seriously he was leaving her? He was the one who made her feel like an embarrassment. This just proved to her that is what he really thought.

She asked Cory to change their order to go and paid for both of their meals. No way in hell was she going to let him pay for a date he didn't want to go on. She put his money in an envelope with his food and left. She would take a short cut home so his car would be there before he got home that way she didn't have to see him ever again. And she certainly wasn't going to the block party tomorrow night. She would send her food with the boys and they can make up an excuse for her.

She turned into his driveway and put his food in front of his door and went home.

Michael took his time walking home. It gave him time to run things through his head. He was wondering what the fuck he had gotten himself into. Why did these people care what other people were doing in their personal lives? Why was Robyn so pissed off at him for trying to look out for her? Maybe he should have stayed away from this small town.

When he walked up the steps onto his porch he saw a container in front of his door and figured it was food from the restaurant. He picked it up, walked to the side of his house, and dumped it into the trash. He walked into his house, and went upstairs. He undressed in his bedroom, showered, then went to bed. While laying in bed he wondered if he could get out of his deal with the school district. Then, he fell asleep. It was an awful night's sleep, but it was sleep.

Robyn woke up the next morning, she didn't sleep the best but that wasn't anything out of the normal she only has one good night of sleep a week and she had that the night in Michael's arms.
Michael. Why was he so upset with her. Why did he think he needed to protect her from the gossip hounds of this town? No one had wanted to protect her before. She didn't have anyone protect her when she was going through her bitter divorce. Was he trying to do the right thing? Or was he just being an arrogent ass and this was the way he would get out of being "neighborly".

She was sitting on the porch swing listening to the birds start to wake when she saw him come out for his morning run. She quietly got up from her seat and went back inside before he noticed her. It was time to start getting cooking for the block party, she didn't have time to sit around and think about him and what could have been.

Michael went for his morning run. He needed to continue to clear his head. He decided to go a couple of extra miles this morning in order to tire himself out. He was going to spend the day at school. He had a few things he wanted to take care of. Although Michael did not officially start for just over a week, he wanted to make sure he hit the ground running.

After his run, he went upstairs, undressed in his bedroom and went in and took a long, hot shower. After the shower, he toweled off, went into his room and dressed, then, went downstairs and grabbed a protein bar and headed to schol. He said hello to Kate when he got there. She was wearing an outfit that was more revealing than normal. He would have to talk to her about that, but, he had to admit, she looked good in it. He went into the Principal's Offica and he grabbed the curriculum guides and sat down at the conference table and got to work.

Robyn kept herself busy getting ready for the block party. She had just finished stuffing 100 jalapeños when she heard her front door open. She turned around and saw Jen returning her checkbook from last night. Fuck she thought to herself. No one knows her better than Jen. Robyn knew one look at her and she is going to know she didn't sleep last night and that she was upset about something. She decided to keep her back to her and continue stuffing her peppers for tonight. She glanced over at her and asked what she was doing. Jen said she was just dropping off her wallet. Then there was silence. Robyn knew she was taking it in, it would be a matter of time before she jumped her shit.

"I talked to Cory this morning at the coffee shop, so spill it." She said as she helped herself to a cup of coffee.

"Jesus Christ word travels fast in this fucking town. No wonder why he hates it here. There isn't anything to tell really. He went with me to the hospital to drop off Emma's things and I suggested supper at Jeff's. Cory came over and gave him the third degree and after he left Michael said that we didn't have to go out in public together if everyone was going to give him third degree more or less we can continue to fuck, but no one here minds their own business.. I obviously am not dating material. I think he hated the fact that Cory was just looking out for me. Jen you know how protective he is, he was the one who enforced the restraining order on the jackass I was married to."

She just stood next Robyn in shock, "You fucked him? Why the hell wasn't I told?"

"Well there isn't anything to talk about because it isn't going to happen again. If he don't want to be seen in public with me then to bad I won't be someone's dirty secret."

Jen didn't have much to say, but Robyn could see the wheels turning in her mind. Jen rinsed her coffee cup and kissed her cheek and told her she was off to her meeting with Michael. She just smiled and patted her shoulder. "I will see you tonight. Garry and I are crashing your party."

And with that she was gone.

Michael was buried in curriculum work in his office. He did not hear Kate walk in. Then, he sensed someone standing in front of him. He looked up and saw Kate there. She asked him if he wanted anything. "Kate, let's talk about a couple things. Have a seat." When she sat down, Michael continued. "There are two things I want to mention to you now. First, I do not expect you to bring anything for me. You are not supposed to run and get me coffee, or anything like that. Your job is to help make sure this office runs efficiently. Second, your dress is not appropriate for this office. You look very good, and It may be appropriate for going out to clubs, but not in an educational setting. I hope that doesn't upset you, but that is what I expect."

Then Michael looked up and saw the Board President standing in the outer office. "We will talk more later, but right now our boss is in the outer office, and I think you should show her in. Michael spent the next two hours going over curriculum with the Board President, and he pointed out places where the curriculum was insufficient. He noticed that she was giving him some funny looks, and he knew that she was friends with Robyn, but he wasn't sure why the looks.

Robyn was almost certain Jen would say something to him. She sent her a text telling her to keep her mouth shut and to stay out of it.

She had her last jalapeño stuffed, she counted them. 100, hopefully they will last a little longer than they usually do. Robyn enjoyed being in the kitchen. Baking was her way to relieve stress, and looking around at everything she made she could tell she was completely stressed out.

It was a little after noon Robyn wondered if Michael was home, she watched him leave this morning. Damn she knew she was going to miss spending time with him, but she refused to lower herself to just being a booty call when he was horny.

Michael finished his meeting with the Board President and he walked her out of the office. He could tell that there was something she wanted to say to him, but it never came. He wondered if Robyn had said anything to Jen about them and what happened last night.

After Jen left, Michael went for a walk around the campus. He was trying to get to know as much about the school as he could. After his tour of the school, Michael headed home. He was ready for a nice, quiet night inside. He knew he had told Robyn he would go to the block party, but that was obviously out of the question now. He pulled into his driveway, went inside, closed the door behind him. He then went to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of tequila and poured himself a shot. After downing the shot, he went upstairs to change.

There was 15 different outfits laying on her bed and scattered on the floor when her son walked in. "Having troubles Mom?" She laughed and said she didn't know what to wear tonight. He looked at her funny. She always wore a pair of running shorts and t shirt to the block party. He plopped down on her bed and pointed to her strapless sundress. "Is Mr. Young coming tonight?"

"I don't care one way or another if he does or doesn't." She answered back "Now get out so I can get dressed and we can go. You know I like to go early and sneak out before it gets dark."

As he was leaving the room he looked at his mom and shook his head. "Mom. You're a lousy liar. You act like the girls in my class when they see Mr. Martin.

Robyn put on the sundress and looked in the mirror. Her son was right it looked good on her. Her tits were amazing in this outfit. She slipped on a pair if sandals and got her things lined up to go. She wondered what he will think of her outfit when he sees it.

Michael changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and went back downstairs. He opened the refrigerator and took out a lime. He sliced it and the. Searched for the salt shaker. He rubbed the lime on the back of his hand and then poured the salt onto it. He poured another shot of tequila and the licked the salt, downed the shot, and sucked the lime.

That was good. He did another shot. Then another. After that shot he went to the refrigerator, grabbed a bottle of beer and walked into the living room. He sat down on the sofa where he had fucked his neighbor the first night. "Fuck this place. If they don't want me here I will go back to civilization and forget this bumblefuck town."

Robyn looked out her kitchen windows, the street was filling up. Mick had the music set up and she watched the neighbor girls dancing in the street. Picnic tables lined down half the block and lawn chairs were sitting around in yards. She looked around to see if Michael was out there somewhere. No sign of him yet. She wondered if he was watching out his window. He will see that small town living is not such a bad thing. I can't imagine they do this in the city. She hollered for her boys to help her carry out the food.

She stepped off the porch and was walking to the food table when she heard a whistle. She turned to look for Mr. Miller but she saw her brother, she smiled and yelled at him to come give her a hand. As he took her platter he told her she looked marvelous and gave her a kiss on the cheek. As they walked to the table he asked if 'lover boy' was coming this evening. Robyn glared at him and said "His name is Michael, and I am not his keeper."

Michael. Oils hear all of the people starting to come out of their homes. He heard the music start to play and he went to his refrigerator to get another beer. Maybe if he got drunk he could sleep through all of the noise of this block party.

He thought about eating something g. Onside ring he was drinking so much but then decided against it. Who the hell cared how drunk he got? He. Kyle sleep in tomorrow and this might all just seem like a bad dream.

Robyn was truly enjoying herself, it was nice to be with the people who always had her back. She was walking down the street to welcome the party crashers. Garry gave her a big hug that lifted her of the ground. They stood on the street in front of Michael's house and Jen asked if he was outside yet.

"No I don't think he is going to come either."

Michael took his time with the next beer. Then he decided to look out and see what the big deal was about this block party. He looked out his door and couldn't see much, so, he walked out onto his front porch. He immediately saw Jen and Robyn standing there with a guy. He was surprised by the way she was dressed. She looked incredible. Was that an attempt to make him jealous? He avoided looking in their direction.

He looked up and down the street at the mob of people that were out there. He didn't want to head right back inside and make it too obvious that he was avoiding Robyn. He was wondering why they were in front of his house but then just accepted that it was a coincidence. He waited a few minutes then went back inside to get another beer and sit on the sofa.

Robyn could hear someone yell "Hey pretty little bartender get another round.". Robyn knew that Cajun accent. She had listened to it every night for the past three months at Jeff's. She looked through the crowd and couldn't see him. She thought she was hearing things, there was no way he would be here. Just as she was about to say something to Jen someone came from behind her and lifted her up and swung her around. Once her feet was back on the ground and she had adjusted her top she turned to see who it was. "What in the hell are you doing crashing our block party?"

"We gotta invite from the hotel manager to come over and it sure beats sitting in the hotel all night long. Now come on woman you owe me a dance and I owe you a beer."

Michael heard a commotion outside and walked back out onto the porch to see what was going on. He saw a guy pick up Robyn and swing her around and sit her back down and tell her they were going to dance and have a beer together. He stood and watched them. He wasn't going to get involved again. The last time he tried to help her out she got all pissed off at him.

He stayed on the porch and watched as the guy got friskier. He heard Robyn say something that he couldn't make out. He started down off the porch. He figured he would get closer just in case. When the guy went a little too far, Michael stepped in. "Leave the lady alone. She is not interested in dancing with you or having a beer with you. Walk away and don't cause her any problems."

Robyn turned to Michael when she heard his voice. She could see he was irritated. She glanced back at Tyrone, and back at Michael. She didn't know what to say, she just reached for Michael's hand and held it tight. Robyn looked up at him and could see he was seething and maybe a little drunk. She slowly loosened her grip and he held her tighter.

"Look man I didn't know she was taken, I'm sorry I thought she was here alone."

"Just walk away and have a good time. She isn't taken. She just isnt interested. Have fun and leave the lady alone and it will be a great night." He felt Robyn grip his hand harder. He thought it ironic that she was okay with him having her back now, but last night was a different story.

After the guy walked away Michael released Robyn's hand. He looked at her. "You okay now neighbor?" He looked at her and allowed his eyes to wander over her before he turned and headed back toward his porch.

"Wait a second Michael, what was all that about?" She looked at him tears in her eyes as he walked away. She didn't understand this man, he comes out here and saves her from being man handled then asks if she's OK, calls her neighbor and walks away? She stood there staring at him waiting for an explanation.

"Robyn, last night I tried to help you out and j got a ration of shit. All I was doing was trying to tell you that if you were uncomfortable with me in public that I understood and you got pissed off at me. I don't know what you expect of me." He held his arms out to his side. "Tonight I was worried that he was going to hurt you. I stepped in even though I wasn't sure I should."

She knew that there were people listening to what he just said but she didn't care. She saw Jen and Garry out of the corner of her eye watching. She knew they wouldn't interfere unless they had to. Robyn walked to the end of his yard where he was standing.
"Last night you made me feel like you were embarrassed to be out with me." He was about to say something and Robyn held her hand up and said, "No let me finish." "I don't date Michael, I have had one relationship since my divorce 5 years ago. Cory's family and I have been close for years. I watch his daughter when his wife and him need time together. He has never seen me out with a man.....ever. He was just trying to be the big brother last night. I am not embarrassed to be seen with you. I don't give a fuck what any one has to say about us being together enjoying each others company. I am 44 years old if I want to have supper, or go to the show, or whatever with you I will."

Just then Jen stepped up and looked at Michael. "I am sorry for putting my nose where it doesn't belong and I am sure Garry will tell me to mind my own business but Michael, I am saying this not because she is my best friend, I am saying it because its true. Robyn is one of the most eligible bachelorettes in this town. She could have a date every night she chooses, but she doesn't. You think about how she has put herself out there. And for who.". Jen patted his back and walked away. Leaving them standing there staring at each other.
