New Literotica Tags Portal Now Open To Everyone for Testing!

I like the new design and the ability to search by ratings. My only issue is that when I click on a story to check it out, then click back, it returns to the top of the page rather than from where I left it. Kind of annoying

Thank you for the feedback. You are the second person to report this issue, but I have been unable to track down when this is happening.

Can you let me know what browser/device you are using and on which page this happens? When I tried it on several of my devices, it seemed to go back to the place on the tags page where I had previously been. However, I may be doing something differently than you are.

Thank you again!

A quick question - in what way is the new Tags Portal not working in Tor for you? We have another tester saying it works for him in Tor so I want to figure out what is and what is not working. It's possible you are using a different browser width or using features that the other user is not using. If you can share what doesn't work in your version or Tor, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for your help! :D

Well the entire page doesn't load. Only the header loads and that's empty too. I can see some divs and stuff that have content but they aren't visible. Don't see any obvious display:none either.

Thank you, I'm looking into this now. It works here on Tor, so I'm glad that you brought this to our attention.

Using the site on the most narrow screen without JS might be difficult (because of dropdown navigation), but we fully expect the site to work for desktop browsers with JS off. According to your screenshot, you are using a wide screen version and it's not working, so that's a bug.

Thank you again! :D

It seems like it keeps refreshing. Is that expected?
-BS

It should not refresh after the page fully loads. When you add/remove tags it will reload the page. If you are seeing refresh behavior unrelated to adding/remove tags or categories, can you let me know the URL and browser/OS you are using?

There is a known issue where the page re-renders with the correct fonts after fully loading. This is a widespread issue with current web development called Flash of Unstyled Content:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_of_unstyled_content
We are working to minimize this, but it is only a visual rendering issue when the page is done loading, it does not cause constant refreshing.

Again, if you are seeing a refresh issue, I'd like to get additional information so we can track it down.

Thank you! :D

I just remember one thing I would love to see that I've seen on fan fiction.net
A word counter and being able to sort/search by the amount of words the story has in it. This will help with those who are looking for longer stories versus shorter ones. I've found that not all authors tag their story as novel and novellas that often. So it's been hard for me as a person who do tend to search for longer stories. Just a thought it's something that I hope we can see added to the site.

Thanks for taking the time to read my feedback. You guys are doing an amazing job.

Compact Mode?

Can we have a compact mode?

On my desktop computer, the old layout shows 246 tags per page (from "18 year old" to "lesbian d/s"), while the new is literally half that (stops at "dominant").

On my phone, it's even worse, as seen here: http://imgur.com/a/OYkKK - old layout stops at "exhibition", new layout stop at "bisexual" - that's 1/4th the content shown.

Same goes for story listing. On desktop, new layout displays 10 stories, old shows 14. On phone, new layout displays 6 stories, old shows 9.

So please add a compact mode that shows the same amount of content as the old layout.

I use Lit 99% on my mobile so I am grateful for these mobile friendly changes. ♡ I love them so far. Thank you!

Thank you for testing the new site and for the suggestions and feedback. :D

The issue with compacting the design is that everything needs to be touch friendly because of the move to mobile devices. Most people are clicking with their fingers these days instead of with a mouse. Touch design specifications require quite a bit more spacing than the old mouse designs. It's something that all modern websites have to deal with and we are trying to find a balance that works for most users.

We will definitely keep working to see if there are ways we can improve the design, so please keep the feedback coming and thank you again! :D

Thank you very much for the nice comment! Please let us know anytime if you have any ideas for improving the design for your mobile usage. :D

Thank you very much for the feedback.

In the new Story Listing Block, we created an icon to show the length of each story. Like many other features that were prototyped during the initial development of the new Lit design, we have not fully developed this feature for production yet. The first step will be that the new Story Pages will show the length of each story at the top of the page. In the future, we plan to add the story length icon to the Story Listing Block. I don't have a timetable for that because we need to get the full new design out to all Lit members first.

Thank you again. :D

That's why I explicitly mentioned the phone comparison. I do use the site from my phone, and even there I vastly prefer the old layout because I can see more stuff. I've never had issues navigating the old layout with my fingers.

Phone's zoom functions work just fine, and the phone comparisons were for the zoomed in comfortable view. Zoomed out, I can see tags all the way down to "interracial romance" and a whopping 17 stories per listing, but that is not comfortable to use.

So my point is that there is room for at least 50% more content while it's still comfortable to use on a phone.

Briefly before I look further - I think it would be more useful for the search bar to be at the top, above the long alphabetized list of tags, than way down at the bottom of the page.

I like the older version, much easier for me. but that's my opinion.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! :D

Can you let me know what you like more about the old one - how it is easier for you? We can make changes to the new one if we know what specific parts of the old design are easier to use.

Thank you again!

Thank you for the info and explanations! :D

The issue is that most users - as well as Google and other search engines - expect websites to be mobile friendly these days. The old design can be zoomed in and out, but it is not "mobile friendly" by design standards. To be mobile friendly, the site needs to work on small screens without the user being required to do any kind of zooming, and it needs to be touch friendly with specific spacing for people with wide fingers. :D

The main reasons we are using a Story Listing block of this format is so that we can add more requested features later (in addition to the already added bookmarking feature).

We will definitely continue looking at the block size and see if it can be improved. To move Literotica forward, we believe that blocks (rather than just text on the page like the old design) is the story listing format that makes the most sense.

Again, please keep your feedback and suggestions coming, as we are tweaking each element of the new design every week based on feedback from you and other users.

Thank you again. :D

Thumbs up!

I really like the look of your new page. This is clean and easy to use. Way to go!

Search bar

I would really like the search bar to be at the top instead of the bottom, for a couple minutes I actually couldn't find the search bar.

Unsure if it's deliberate, but the author links from the search screens now target the Biography page (default profile link) rather than the submissions page.

Gut feel is most people want to know other submissions more than author information, but I'm sure there's site stats that'll reveal more about this.

Authors

The only problem I have had on Literotica is the author search. Too often the search is futile when I know the author's name is spelled correctly.

Favorites

Favorites link should provide choice for my favorite authors, not just my favorite stories.

Text size

A general problem I have had with the old Literotica, both in the forum and the story section, is that the text can appear in different sizes. This mostly happens if I load a page, then tilt my mobile devise to landscape orientation, and then tilt it back to portrait. If I do this, the text becomes smaller. That sucks because the text is already small from the beginning. The difference isn't that big, maybe 1-3 sizes smaller after tilting. Oh and I have a OnePlus 3 with Android 7.1.1.

Are non-english tags disabled?

A few weeks back I could find my stories, but now is stays english

Both when I use the little pulldown menu on the right bottom corner of the non-english section.

Try "broer" for example, a tag I have used, it is not searchable

Will there be other ways to navigate in the future, like the existing portal, with lists of new stories in each category?

And the story view, when I use the new control panel and click on preview then the page is displayed in a single page view... I like that view a bit better than the traditional view, although I do like the division in pages on the old view, the new view fills widescreens better... I hope there will be a mix of the old and the new view, about 10 word pages per page, displayed like the preview view in the new control panel
