I was curious if i could get your opinion of a few types of riffles? I was looking for a nice .270 or 30-06 for deer hunting in Kentucky, the thing about it is that I don't know what style of riffle or brand that I would like. I am thinking either a Ruger or Remington but I also hear that Savage is coming out with some great arms now. I would also like a riffle that is nice to look at as well as shoot. Just give me your suggestion thanks a bunch. I was curious also do you get into black powder any?
Rockola Girl said:depends on the price that you want to spend and if you like history or just want a new rifle. about the best deal out there right now is the mosin nagants, its a russian rifle that was made from 1891 to somewhere in the mid 70s, alot of combat history. its chambered in 7.62x54r, with a 2900 fps muzzle velocity its more powerfull than a 30-06. ammo is cheap and common to with 480 round spam cans costing just over 50 bucks.
if your familure with the movie enemy at the gates youve seen alot of them. most countrys, including the united states, used mosin nagants at some time or another. my oldest one is a finnish capture m28, the barrel was made by SIG arms in 1927 but the reciever came from a rifle thats dated 1897. with over 100 verietys and prices being kept under $100 dollars (except for snipers, finnish, german, and us made nagants) there fun collectables. you can still buy brand new rifles dated in the 30s and 40s. heres a sight that might be interesting for you. http://7.62x54r.net/
try aimsurplus.com, theres alot of good rifles for sale for rock bottom prices.
might want to look at the k31 rifles to, there so accurite that there banned from alot of high power shooting competitions. the cool thing about those is that 90% of the time there will be alittle tag under the butt plate with the soldiers name, address, rank, birth date, and age. alot of collectors write the old soldiers. ive herd of several instances where the soldiers would be getting on in age and send all the momentos like medals and pictures of them and the rifle to the new owner. verry reciently one collector contacted a faimly just to find out that the old grand father had died, BUT, his grand daughter is planning to come to la to meet him and see the rifle before she goes to school. pretty cool if you ask me.
i could go on and on about rifles, if you want to know alittle more about these or any other kinds of rifles just send me a pm with your questions. i would touch on the new rifles but it would take WAYYYYY to long,
just remember, when it comes to new rifles you get what you pay for. a 200-300 dollar new rifle would not be worth proping up my pup tent with imho. also stay away from reproduction guns like tommy guns, m1 garands, m1 carbines ect ect. i baught one tommy gun that was trash already and the garands and m14 clones use cast recievers instead of milled. a fake garand will never be worth as much as a real usgi garand EVER. most people are happy paying 1000 for a "new" garand but resale is minimal and problems with the reciever should always be in the back of your mind. ive herd to many cracked reciever horror storys.
military arms its a diffrent cause because of the cold war, MILLIONS were made so the prices are still dirt cheap for a rifle that was actually milled by somebody by hand, not a computer. much better quality in some of those rifles.
You forgot to mention the M91/30 which is another variant of the Mosin Nagant.
Also, if you are using the Spam can ammo, make sure that it is NON-Corrosive ammo. Otherwise, if you don't clean the weapon right away, you might find big problems from it.
