According to a new Siena College poll, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has seen his standing improve amid a broader acceptance of his policies beyond his progressive base. The survey found his favorability has risen statewide and within the city. Voters expressed broad support for parts of his affordability agenda, including free child care.

The poll suggested Mamdani’s longer-term popularity will hinge on whether he can translate campaign proposals into results once in office.

During the War in Vietnam I belonged to the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee. It later evolved into Democratic Socialists of America, of which Zohran Mamdani is a member. I thought about joining Democratic Socialists of America. I did not because it takes the side of the Palestinians against Israel.

When I belonged to the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee it was solidly pro Israel, as I still am.

Siena found Mamdani with a net favorability of plus 15 statewide, with higher marks in New York City.

True, tax-paid does not mean "free". But if it provides for affordable childcare for families that urgently need it, it's taxes well spent.

This glorious election [presuming one is allowed to happen] won’t be reversing generations of counter-revolution.

To think differently, one would be politically illiterate.

People say 'there's no such thing as free' as if they are making a devastating point.

We use 'free' as shorthand for 'free at the point of use'. Which is a lot cheaper than the current US option which is designed to turn millionaires into billionaires without regard for the actual health of the low-paid.

always follow the money
This rings true. We certainly don’t follow law, truth, equity, justice or the premise of human decency.

But at what point does the regime become an illegal entity?

— Oh wait! We don’t follow law . . .

to me in my opinion polls are still crazy

they are like the stock market

it goes up then goes down then back up and then back down etc etc
