New Tires

When it comes buy tires for vehicles primarily driven by females I never suggest cutting corners in price, therefore taking the risk of getting an inferior product that could fail and place her in a dangerous situation while traveling.

When one computes the cost of a highend set of tires vs. cheaper/foreign made tires the price difference comes to pennies per day over the life of a set of tires.

In my past experiences and info gained from tire review sites I have determined that BF Goodrich and Goodyear have some of the best products on the road.

Run-flat tires also add another level of safety with their blowout resistance and the ability to drive into a repair shop in the event of tire deflation.

Good luck with your choice.

as stated earlier most every goodyear tire i have ever run has failed one way or another. Some of the foreign made tires are damn good tires. i know several guys that run foreign made tires on the different road courses here and they hold up perfectly. most the time your just paying for that brand name. kinda like nike in shoes.

That sounds a little silly. A perfectly good German tire somehow, magically?, becomes inferior to the domestic tires just because it crossed an ocean.

We do not have a perfect manufacturing process. Some items we make last longer, some not. Some true for any company that manufactures anything.

I would have gone with the michelins without hesitation. Being a car guy it seems almost obvious what the choice here is. Michelin or bust.

I still say goodyear or michelin are your top choices. I've been around cars for years and have many friends in various automotive fields. Goodyear has some bottom of the line econo-tires that are a little questionable in my eyes (kind alike the C-230 mercedes entry level junk), but the middle af the line and high end are some of the best you can buy. Michelin is pretty much great across the board. I have issues with many foreign tires. If i had a gun to my head to buy a foreign tire it would be a yokohama.

My advice, stay away from kumho, and firestone, ive seen too many failures with them first hand, not a my cousins, aunts, uncles, dog's, vet's best friend in austrailia once heard that.... Also dont even get me started on the junk that pep boys sells that they want top call a tire...

AS FAR AS RUN FLAT IS CONCERNED
If your vehicle wasnt equipped with them from the factory and does not have a factory tire pressure monitoring system (newer high end luxury cars) then you can not safely run a runflat tire. A reputable shop will not even mount them for you. They are unsafe as they can get a nail and go flat and due to their characteristics you would not know. They can run while deflated for a short period of time to get you to help, but extended driving will lead to a complete tire failure. You can get aftermarket monitoring devices but they are far from cheap.

Well, I got the Michelins on Friday, and they seem to be doing well, even on really wet roads.

I'll post a review after I've used them more, but so far I think they're a good value and certainly better than my close-to-bald old ones!
