1840-

Finally, She thought to herself as she put her quill back in the bottle of black ink. Her eyes ran over the words she had just wrote, the last few paragraphs to her book. My book. Her eyes closed for a moment, a smile formed on her lips. Barley anyone thought she'd be able to do it and the very few that did, didn't think it would end up on the shelves because... well who would publish a womens work? Who would take the time to read a womens work?

She grabbed the last paper and added it to her tall stack before she rose from her chair. Maria grabbed her stack of papers and put them in her brown leather bag before pushing in her chair and heading to the door to seemif that carriage that had arrived a few minutes ago was still there. Opening her from door, she saw it standing there, two large black horses standing there, waiting for her. With a bright smile, she shut the door behind her and ran to the carriage, getting into the back.

As she got in, she couldn't stop herself from bouncing a bit. Finally, all those people who thought she would never get published... Oh she just couldn't wait to see their faces when they saw her book on the shelves! It didn't take long to get into town, really only a few minutes and soon the horse was she pulled up in front of the town book store.

Maria grabbed her things and climbed out of the carriage, giving the driver two silver coins before heading inside. "Thank you sir!" She called to him as he started to drive away. She turned back to the store and walked inside, the small bell ringing as she went in. The store looked to be completely empty. "Mr. Debber?" She called out a bit confused.

From the back she could hear a some rusuling before a man about 28 with shaggy brown hair and deep green eyes walked out. He wore a smile on his face before he saw her.

"Maria, what are you doing here?" He asked her, crossing his arms.

"I finished!" She told him, holding out the bag. I finished the book!" Mr. Debber was the one man in town who believed she could write, He even thought he could get her book out in the world. He was the only man she trusted in town... or at least was.

Mr. Debber reached out and took the bag before laying it on the counter. "Maria... what... l mean," His face was twisted in reaget and confusion. "Maria, l... l can't put this on my shelves." He said finally.

Her smile faded. "W-what do you mean you can't. Mr. Debber, you said you would! You said if l wrote it, you would look it over and publis-"

"I didn't think you would write it all!" He interrupted. "You looked so upset, so put down.... Maria, l just wanted to make you feel better." He uncrossed his arms before placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry, but if l put that up, l'll become a town joke. No one will come here anymore. You must understand."

Maria stared at him, her eyes watering a bit from the betral. How dare he! How dare he make a fool out of me! She shot back, her face twisting into that of rage. "My book will get on the shelf Mr Debber, you have my word on that. And people will love it! They... they'll love it so much, it'll suck them in!" She pointed to him, "Starting with your blood line." She watched his face twist to horror at her words before she turned and left the store.

"Maria!" She could hear him yell. "Maria you can't do this!" She kept walking. "Witch! Take your curse off!" A grin crossed the young ladies face as she headed home.

No one should ever trick a witch.

Andrew Debber

Andrew "Andy" Debber absentmindedly went through the family heirlooms as he prepared to sell off much of what was left of the old estate. There wasn't much. The Debber family had hit their high watermark during Prohibition as rum runners, but that money was largely gone these days. Andrew had decided to liquidate much of the property in the family fortune. Yes, it was necessary for his plan, which was to give himself the capital needed for his microbrewery. Books and booze were both family traditions, and while he liked books as a hobby, there was far more money in booze.

There it was, the rather strange book that somehow ended up in the family's possession. It was said to be left over from the store that was long since closed. No one in the family would dare to open it, but they never told him why.

"Don't even think of opening that book, Andy. It's cursed," Grandma Debber told him once. He took her at her word that time, but now he knew that curses were nothing but idle superstition. What was the harm in finding out what it was, before he sold it off?

Andy was tired of his current hustle of being a stockbroker. It was nice, but he wanted to run his own business and not have to do what others told him. It was high time, but before he sold this book, he just had to learn what was it.

The phone rang, but he ignored. Andy didn't care to hear from his ex-girlfriend, probably pushing for them to get back together. Forget about that! She caught him cheating and dumped him, made a big point of putting his face on a stupid website and made it that much harder to get a date. Now she could kiss his ass. He would take tons of money and then she would really come crawling back to him. Well, at that point, it had better be on broken glass. That was the only way he'd ever take her back. She was lucky that he didn't sue her ass after the website thing, since some of the words that she used about him were exaggerations and thus libel. Maybe he should sue her.

Oh, well, he'd go ahead and answer the bitch.....after he opened the book.

Andy opened the book and suddenly felt a weird force draw and pull on his body, shrinking him for a moment and then suck him through a vortex like a straw. He had no idea what it was.

By the time that he was done, he was out cold, having passed out from the shock of the experience.

Joveux ran through the woods, her ravenous hair flowing behind her like a flawless vial. Her dark purple cape ruseled a bit as it hit a few of the tree she ran by. In her hand, she held one bloody knife she had stolen from one of the men that had attacked both her and her guards on the trail. After she was sure she was far enough, she came to a stop, panting and gasping for air as her heart pounded so loud, she was sure the men that attacked her would hear.

How did they find us" How did they know? She thought as she leaned against a tall oak tree, leaning her head back. Only a hand full of people knew she was traveling and out of those few, her father was the only man to know what trail she was going to take. He wouldn't tell anyone though. He would never give his only daughters safety away.

Then how did they know? Joveux had been guarded by ten of her father's best men, but now of them were ready for an attack. About twenty of them. Those fucking orcs came out ofknow where and started to kill them off... all trying to get to her. Orcs don't even travel in packs that big. Why were they doing this?

After she had her breathing under control, Joveux pushed off the tree and looked down at herself, seeing all her mens blood that covered her tan skin. First things first, find a stream or a pond. Slowly, she ran her fingers through her hair, brushing it behind her ear as she listened for the sound of water. It was faint, but after a few seconds of silence, she heard the unmistakable sound of running water.

She took off for it, thinking she could rest more when she got there. Her bare feet make soft light thumps on the forest floor, along with a few cracks and snaps from the twigs and leaves she stepped on. After only as few minutes she could see the stream, even smell the water, making her smile a bit. She slowed down to a walk and went to the waters egde before freezing.

What the...

Laying on the ground was... a man laying in a puddle of mud. Slowly, carefully she walked overto him, wonder what he was as well as what happened to him. Joveux stopped a few inches away and bent over, tapping him a few times with her hand.

Andrew Debber

Andy awoke to being tapped by a strange woman. Her hair was long and jet-black, her skin was rather swarthy and earthy, and she had a purple cape falling from her shoulders.

She looked more than a little distressed, which puzzled Andy. Where was he? This place looked very odd. It certainly wasn't the old family house, which badly needed renovation. This was outside somewhere, but exactly where?

"Who in the blazes are you?" he asked, truly confused. She was pretty and he hoped that he didn't upset her, but then women had tended to annoy him of late. Then again, this woman had nothing to do with Brianna. He shouldn't hold his ex's foolish jealousy against this stranger, who seemed scared enough. A cross man like Andy might not help matters.

"Sorry, I don't mean to be so harsh. I just don't know you from Adam, or is that Eve? I don't even know where I am. Andrew Debber, but you can call me Andy," he stood up and offered to shake her hand.

Loveux backed up as the mans eyes opened, going straight to her. Oh god, I shouldn't have touched him. I should have just left him there. She thought to herself as she watched the confusion, then the rage fill his eyes up. When he talked though, the fear that had left her only moments ago was now back in full swing.

But so did anger. No one talked to her like that. No creature! They enormally didn't have to guts to talk to the soon to be queen of Higua. She crossed her arms under her cape and watched him face slowly turned apologetic and he introduced himself, holding out his hand to her.

Slowly, she walked around him, going to the waters egde and sitting down so she could put her feet in and wash away some of the dirt and the blood that covered them. Not one did she turn her eyes away from him. "Who is this Adam you speak of? Or this Eve I'm afraid I do not know them." Joveux told him as she moved her hands down and grabbed some water, splashing it on her calves.

"Though I am Princess Joveux, soon to be ruler of the moon elf tribe of Higua." She told him before she grabbed the corners of her cape and opened them up, revealing her outfit. Underneath the cape, she wore nothing more then a black and purple corset, swirling designs covered it. As for her bottoms, she wore nothing, what he would think was a bikini bottom. A crystal blue diamond huge from her neck, shining bright when the sun light hit it.

"Now... Andy, what are you?' She asked as she rubbed the water over her tone legs, watching away the blood. "I have never seen anything like you before." She told him, her hand itching to go to the blade.

Andrew Debber

"What kind of world is this? What kind of woman are you? I'm a man. A stockbroker, though I doubt that you know what that is. But I'm going to run a microbrewery, when I get the venture capital for it. I doubt that you know what that is, either. You're half-naked. What are you? Not a stripper, since I doubt they exist in this world. You look like the cover of a freaking romance novel, the sort of crap that my ex read so much. Are you supposed to be some kind of royalty? And why do you not look fully human? What else could you be?

"Sorry, don't mean to barrage you with questions. But why are you armed with a sword? Are you some kind of Amazon? I'll have you know that my people have no kings or princesses. No royalty or aristocracy whatsoever. So don't expect any bowing and scraping from me. We're a republic. And I'm reasonably well-off, so I'm respected by many where I'm from. Not respected enough, thanks to the damn lies that my ex told about me. I should still sue the pants off her. I could get some real venture capital that way."

"All I know is that I opened this damn book out of curiosity, and now I'm here. Maybe Grandma was right about the book after all. I'll be damned."

"What the hell is going on here? You look awful scared for an Amazon," Andrew Debber demanded, not a bit intimidated by a girl who looked like a member of Comicon.

Joveux looked at the man confused by about all the things that was coming out of his mouth. What was a stripper and a stockbroker? And a human? Was that whar he was? A human? She cocked her head to the side, confused. Not once had she ever heard the word human.

She stood there silencely, waiting for him to stop before she finally stoke up. "1, l have no idea about half the damn things that came out of your mouth. Which make me want to smack you. On top of that, your talking down to me which makes me, once again want to smack you." She stood up and wipped the extra water off her before she ran her fingers through her hair.

"I am a elf. A moon elf to be exact." She walking up to him, making sure to watch his every movement. "Your making no sense at all and l think you need to stop snapping at me until you get a hold of yourself." Joveux stopped a few feet away from him and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Now, before you go on about Amazon, or a grandma and your ex, whatever that is, l want to know what you are and why your here? Do you live in these woods?" Because if so, that could come in handy for her. She needs someone that knows his way around. Maybe she could get home. "And..." she looked around, "Have you seen any orcs near by?"

Perhaps he'd overreacted and scared her a bit. Andy was so keen on asserting himself against royal privilege that he might have gone too far.

"Let's start this over, shall we? I just didn't care for your regal tone, and I might have gotten a bit too harsh in response. Something to do with my strong dislike of royalty. I'll try not to hold that against you personally, though you're clearly a bit spoiled. I don't know of any orcs. I didn't frankly know that they existed until just now. They don't where I'm from.

"I have no idea what a moon elf is, other than that it's an elf of some kind. They don't have elves where I'm from, either. We're all humans, like me. Some are men and some women, of course. No orcs, elves, trolls, dwarves, etc. They're all believed to be myths and legends, nothing more. Pure folklore. Magic doesn't exist where I am from. So all of this is a bit new to me. We use machines for things rather than magic.

"I didn't mean to confuse you. It's just that we come from such different worlds. Seems that I'm stuck in yours for now, much as I hate the idea. I have stuff to do where I'm from. Money to make. Beer to brew. My current trade involves handling the monies that others have and advising them what to do with it. It doesn't excite me much, but it pays well. I don't suppose my money works much here, though. I wish that I had my coin collection with me.

"I meant no offense. I'm just getting used to the bizarre nature of this place. What's next, centaurs, unicorns, dragons? It sounds like a magical fantasy world come to life. So, sorry, Your Highness, I suppose that we're stuck with each other for now and will have to learn to put up with each others' quirks," Andrew Debber apologized for being a bit heavy-handed. He still didn't like the idea of her thinking that she had the right to smack him, though, which reminded him of that.

"Oh, but there will be no smacking each other. Is that clear? Where I come from, that's a crime. I certainly won't put up with it here, either."

Joveux cocked her head to the side as he apologized and even tried to explain how his world was different from her own. It still ment no sense to her, but she wasn't going to ask more questions to listen to him explain screwed up crap to her, but there were a few things she wanted to point out to him. Once he was finished with his speech she spoke up.

"Actually, centaurs, unicorns, and dragons are all real. You don't see dragons here a lot though because the like to live in more moutaines places. So no need to worry about them." She leaned up against a tree and brushed her hair back, revealing her ears clearly to him, showing off two golden hoops at the end of each. "Now for the slapping, we're not where you come from. We're in my world, on my land, so l will do whatever l want to. Especially since l don't have laws."

She stood up straight and smiled at him though. "But don't worry, if you don't piss me off, l wont hurt you." With that, Joveux walked to the stream, pulling her cloak up as she did. "Now, since you seem to know nothing about this world, oddly l suggest you come with me. If you stay alone, especially in this forest, you'll die in about a hour."

She held her cloak up high as she walked deeper into the stream. It only went to about her knees, but she didn't want her outfit wet. "So, lets go Andrew."

Andrew Debber

Andrew made a mental note that she might slap him in the future and he should be on his guard. He wasn't taking that crap from her any more than he took it from his ex.

"I will follow you this far. Beyond that point, I will seek out other company or perhaps just my own. I'll be quite pleased to do so. I have only known one other person as exasperating as you. Pretty, yes, but still annoying. So I'll quite happy to leave your lands, as you put it," he fumed as he followed her.

He didn't fuss or worry about his clothes. He wasn't a descendant of bootleggers for nothing. He damn sure wasn't anyone's serf, either. He wouldn't be treated like one, in this world or his own.

Andrew completely tuned out anything but the sounds of the forest and stream, determined to see what he could pick up with his various senses. Again, rum runners' habits. The men in the family also took him hunting more than a few times in the woods where he lived. He wasn't Jeremiah Johnson, but he wasn't a total city slicker, either.

"Don't worry, when we get to my castle, l'll have my men escort you to your home." She told him as she walked out of the stream and allowed her cloat to fall to thd ground. "Warning though, l'd stay close to me. There are tons of creatures in the forests that would..." She looked back at him and looked him over, taking him all in. "Well... they'd jump you in a instant." She told him and not in a bad way. Most men like to get jump here, but some don't ever make it back and that's not because they started a nice happy family.

Joveux looked around the forest that surrounded her, listening closely, trying to listen for anything that might be harmful to them. Orcs weren't a problem right now because you can normally here them from a while away. Every few minutes she looked back at him, making sure he was alright... and that he wasn't trying anything.

She was sure he was alright, so she paid more attention to what was around her. "Andrew," She started softly. "I have to say this..... l'm sorry l've been bitchy."

Andrew Debber

"Hey, I've been a real prick here, too. Something to do with waking up as literally a stranger in a strange land. Shall we start out fresh, Your Highness?" he did a polite curtsy, which was as close as he'd ever come to kneeling (bowing and scraping just wasn't his cup of tea).

"Andy Debber. I'm grateful that you let me know that I was in danger. I was just a little cranky, that's all. Anyway, let's get the hell out of here. We'll have plenty of time for getting acquainted later. I don't know what you mean by being jumped, but I like to have a choice about who jumps me and why," Andy smiled with more charm than before.

Andy just hoped that things would go smoother now. He always did respond much nicer to someone after the first olive branch was extended to him. Maybe it was pride, but he tended to react to perceived arrogance and courtesy both in kind. He found it much easier to apologize after the other guy had done so first. If that made him petty, so be it. Certain things just got his back up.

"Damn, I could use a smoke right now!" Andy reacted to the growing nicotine withdrawal. His last drag had been a while ago now.

Joveux waved him off. "Again l apologized first, which means l don't really care what you said. Your not the first person that hated me instantly. I've learned to live with it." She told him. looking over her shoulder. "l learned women are crueler then men though so you didn't bother me, you were alright." Joveux looking forward.

"As for what would jump you... well," She looked back at him quickly before looking in front. "Your well build, no scars that l can see, your musclar and you put on that smile way to quick. You would probably get jumped by.... dark elves, fairies, orcs, nymphs." She shook her head, "Some people think they sound like nice sweet creature and they usually are, but when they want something, they'll stop at nothing to get it." She explained to him since he seemed to know nothing about what went on in this world.

When he talked about smoking she turned to him, quite confused. "Smoke? You do that?" She asked him. "Most creatures don't do that. Well... those males that want to act all tough, but not many others." She said.

Andrew Debber

"I see. Well, let's hurry up. I see we have places to go, miss. Tempting as the nymphs might be, with my luck, it would be orcs," Andy grimaced and ignored her other comments.

The lack of nicotine would be a real pain, but he'd get over it eventually. His doctor kept saying he should quit, well, now he would.

OOC: I regret the delay. Been away from the PC a lot....RL stuff.
