Monica felt like she should be more sad about Lily and Brian. Sad at all really. There was something of her mother in her response though. Something a little troubling, but also insulating. Lily and Brian were dead in part because of her, but largely because they were stupid, treacherous, and weak. She'd arranged for Brian to leave Prospect City. That was the plan. Get the fuck out of town and don't ever come back. She doubted very much that he'd been kidnapped so he could be staged in Lily's car. They'd ignored all reason, he'd stayed. The Russians would have killed him if they knew. Hell, the Russians may have killed him. The Imperial might have... but he might not have. Lily, also, would have happily betrayed her. She only told her the truth when pressed, and frankly probably out of fear. No, there'd be no tears for the Lofflers. She could practically see her mother's indifferent shrug "things happen in war, pumpkin" said with a tone that might have been used to give a recipe or let her know it was raining outside.
Turning to the subject of her mother, she thought on how the Imperial's structure so perfectly mimicked the Centauri cells on Earth. Diffuse command, nobody knowing each other. That was for two reasons. It meant that no cell could give away the others, but it also meant that there could be no mass "going native." There could be no betrayal except on a small manageable scale. She thought a moment, about the Imperial and the "he". It was possible that the Imperial was a woman in sunglasses. A woman who claimed to represent a man. Cloaked in his male gravitas and authority, it would allow her to hide in plain site. Just the messenger. Monica contemplated that for a while. FIghting another Centauri woman was not high on her list of priorities. In large part because unless she was Monica's age she was probably a highly trained killer. Unless she was the techie. Maybe she'd get lucky and the Imperial would be from her dad's caste. Maybe she was putting too much into this "the Imperial is a Centauri" thing. Racist, Monica. Racist. Humans are perfectly capable of making criminal enterprises.
"I was so fucking busy Christina. I quit my job, so.. maybe next semester." She nodded "It was all just too much. I've got a heavy workout regime.. which is why I can eat so much. Plus school, plus tutoring Austin. Plus..." She smiled over at Gabi "new relationship. But I'm still down."
When Hadley came over she arched an eyebrow "cam-cam? that is disgustingly cute." She grinned and took a sip, to be polite. "The word is ambrosia. The food and drink of the gods of Olympus." she passed it back to Hadley, then used her phone to find a picture of a white girl sitting on a Latina girl's face, sending that to Gabi in response to her text.
