“I’m sorry, querida,” Gabi said as she Monica unpacked the situation with her parents. As the conversation went on and the older girl turned to discussing the potentially difficult decision the dark-haired girl would have to make, Gabi was silent, only squeezing Monica’s hand more tightly with each passing minute.
After a little while, her grip loosened and Monica could hear her breathing changing as Gabi drifted off to sleep, soon followed by Monica.
When Monica awoke again, it was a little after 1:30. She found Gabi in the living room watching an animated series on Netflix and eating some cereal. “I just got a super-apologetic text from my mom a few minutes ago,” she noted. “She wants to meet with me after she closes up the shop, so…we’ll see how that goes.”
She placed her cereal bowl down and pulled Monica towards her onto the couch. “So…do you need to do…Centauri stuff today?” She kissed the top of Monica’s head. “Did you want to stay in? Pryce’s party is at 8 tonight but I’m guessing you aren’t feeling it, which is totally fine. At least we don’t need to cook today. Pretty sure that Zoe sent me home with half a bird.”
