Gabi rolled over onto her back, tilting her head toward Monica and looking up into her green eyes. “Sweetie,” she said quietly. She reached over and lightly stroked her girlfriend’s jawline. “I didn’t even…it’s hard to believe it’ll be a whole year.”
She intertwined her fingers with Monica’s left hand and then pulled it toward her. “It’s okay. That makes sense. You being worried about me. With what you went through. I’m sorry you…I’m sorry all of that was going through your mind tonight. But...you didn’t act on it. Maybe you thought about it, but you didn’t. And…you decided to let me in on everything. You let me decide if being with you is worth the risks and the stress and…it is. It totally is.”
Rubbing her thumb against Monica’s palm, she continued, “And I mean, it’s not like…you don’t have your reasons for worrying. Tom and just…everything you’ve seen. And deal with this year. But…I’m also not, like, some total wide-eyed country girl in the big city. I know how to be safe. Where to avoid. And honestly, like…taking supervillains out of the equation…I remember reading most violent crimes are committed by people you know and not random strangers. Like poor Eve. God.”
She sighed softly. “I will definitely let you know if…you’re going a little overboard. But I definitely want you to talk to Mel about this if it’s freaking you out so much.”
