Given that it is an academic institution I could see them blocking access to explicit sites through their computers on campus. That would just be a safe decision so someone doesn't go see something or download something and then later it comes back on the university.

At Notre Dame the students want to bare what they consider 'pornographic' content. At other Univ. other content is being banned. Twitter and FB are doing their part as well.

Yes, and in this case I believe they decided correctly. The right of free speech carries with it the risk of being offended and/or offensive. And a Univ. of all places should be a where ideas, no matter how offensive the individual may think them, are open for free exchange and debate. Once one voice is silenced where does it all end?
