Well, I love all animals, and I've had all manner of pets over the years, but as I've gotten older I've come to really appreciate the independent, low maintenance nature of cats.

One of my cats spends his mornings trying to convince me not to go to work, so I get that. My other cat cries at the front door when he thinks I should be home from work, like a song of summoning.

Cats can be weird critters, but we love them anyway.

Absolutely. Dogs are vastly more forgiving. Cats? Cats can be umbrageous little beasts. But I like a little attitude in my companions.

I’ve been hanging in there. I got reminded that I’m getting old a couple weeks ago when I slept wrong and wound up with my back killing my for over two weeks. But hey, I had nurse kitties making sure I didn’t overdo it.

When the colder nights finally hit, I know I'll have tiny bodies climbing under the blanket with me - or wrapped around my head - and I already feel exhausted from the lack of sleep that will ensue as I sacrifice my comfort for theirs.
