Yemen Rebels Seize US Vehicles And Weapons As Western Embassies Close

Yemen

Are thermite grenades no longer used to destroy and/or disable vehicles and equipment?

Via Stars and Stripes

The United States, Britain and France moved to close their embassies in Yemen on Wednesday, increasing the isolation of Shiite rebels who have seized power. In a show of bravado against the Americans, the rebels seized the cars of U.S. diplomats left at the airport on the way out.

At the same time, the rebels – known as the Houthis – attacked demonstrators holding protests against their power grab in various parts of the capital, Sanaa, witnesses said. The fighters beat protesters and stabbed them with knives, arrested more than a dozen.

The increasing turmoil comes almost four years to the day since the start of Yemen’s 2011 Arab Spring uprising that ousted the longtime autocratic ruler but then opened a political transition that crumbled between the country’s grinding forces of tribal politics, sectarian divisions, al-Qaida militancy and succession movements.[…]

On Tuesday, the State Department announced it suspended operations at the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa and relocated remaining diplomatic personnel “due to the ongoing political instability and the uncertain security situation.” The embassy had been operating with only a skeleton staff for some weeks amid deteriorating conditions.

More than 25 vehicles abandoned by departing American embassy staffers at Sanaa airport were seized by the rebels, according to airport officials. The rebels also took weapons that were left in the vehicles, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

The embassy’s Marine detachment, which escorted the cars, left their personal sidearms behind since they would be unable to take them on the commercial flights they were leaving on, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters in Washington. They destroyed their heavier weapons – automatic weapons and machine guns – before leaving the embassy, he said.

Tell us

What was the actual issue, degenerate Nigger dan

US Marines disarmed by Yemeni militia

Remember back when our operations in Yemen were the model for how Barack Obama was going to wage bloody war on ISIS:

This counterterrorism campaign will be waged through a steady, relentless effort to take out [the Islamic State] wherever they exist, using our air power and our support for partner forces on the ground. This strategy of taking out terrorists who threaten us, while supporting partners on the front lines, is one that we have successfully pursued in Yemen and Somalia for years.

After the government, to the extent that Yemen has ever had a government, was overthrown by tribal militias loyal to Iran things started to be “un-successful.” First, we, along with the UK and other nations, suspended operations at our embassy

The decision came hours after the US state department said it had decided to suspend operations at its embassy in the capital.

“Recent unilateral actions disrupted the political transition process in Yemen, creating the risk that renewed violence would threaten Yemenis and the diplomatic community in Sanaa,” spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

But the best part of this “successful” strategy was still to come:

Houthi rebels took all U.S. Embassy vehicles parked at the Yemeni capital’s airport and wouldn’t let departing U.S. Marines take their weapons with them, a top Sanaa airport official said about the latest evidence of unrest in an Arab nation long seen as key in America’s fight against terrorists.

The actions come after the United States, along with Britain, suspended operations at their embassies and moved out staffers because of the instability in Yemen.

According to the official, the Houthis seized many U.S. Marines’ weapons at the airport, and the American troops also handed over some to random airport officials.

You read that correctly. The USMC security detachment for the embassy in Yemen handed over their vehicles and weapons before they were able to depart. The military is doing the best it can to hold this particular pig down and put lipstick on it but int the process they reveal just how chaotic the management of foreign policy has become under Obama:

The Marine security detachment guarding the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen left no operational weapons behind as troops evacuated the country, a senior Marine official with knowledge of the movement told Marine Corps Times.

Officials with the Sanaa airport told the Associated Press earlier today that Houthi rebels seized more than 25 official U.S. vehicles in the wake of the hasty departure of embassy staff, some with personal weapons left inside.

Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters that the embassy’s Marine security guard detachment destroyed larger weapons, including machine guns, and added that he believed they had turned over personal weapons to Yemeni officials because they could not take them on commercial flights.

But the Marine official, who asked that he not be identified because he was unauthorized to discuss the situation, said no working Marine weapons, whether crew-served or personal rifles and sidearms, were seized or handed over as the troops departed.

This is a bull**** excuse that one would expect to come out of the State Department, not out of the USMC.

1. Why was a commercial flight used? Was the USAF busy bowling or taking LGBT sensitivity training?

2. Seriously, we are expected to believe they just dropped their weapons because they weren’t allowed to take them on a commercial airliner? Hadn’t anyone in Yemen ever flown commercial before? Why weren’t they stowed int the baggage compartment?

3. You destroy your crew served weapons when you are retreating or before you surrender. Otherwise you take your sh** with you.

4. When the poor schmuck they sent out to tell this Brian-Williams-esque tale says the weapons were inoperable, he doesn’t tell you that a lack of weapons isn’t one of the problems facing Yemen. While this might be a moral victory in some quarters when you have to leave your weapon behind you’ve been beaten.

This only happened because it was directed by Iran. They did it to prove a point to other nations in the region that we are weak. This is what happens when you are neither feared nor respected.

Over and over I think we’ve reached “rock bottom” in foreign and national security policy because then we could start the 12-step recovery process. But it is clear from this shameful event, a permanent stain on American arms, that we have a long way to go and Barack Obama intends to make us reach it. At some future date when another commission is investigating a major terror attack on US soil they will look at this event as one of the underlying causes.

Marine Corps Disputes State Department: ‘No Marine Handed A Weapon To A Houthi, Or Had One Taken From Him’

Yemen OP

We need to hear from a Marine that had boots on the ground. Another Benghazi flowing disjointed narrative. Update to this previous story.

Via CSN News

The U.S. Marine Corps late Wednesday rejected reports that the Marine security detachment at the American Embassy in Yemen had surrendered their weapons at Sana’a airport before leaving the troubled Gulf state with evacuated embassy staffers.

It confirmed, however, that weapons – both personal and “crew-served” – had been destroyed before the State Department-ordered departure, “in accordance with an approved destruction plan.”

Earlier, Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters that members of the detachment had handed over their pistols and rifles at the airport, as they were not permitted to take them on commercial aircraft organized for the evacuation.

Warren also said the Marines had destroyed their crew-served weapons – that is, weapons systems requiring more than one person to operate, such as heavy machine guns.

The idea that U.S. Marines would surrender their personal weapons to anyone, let alone to members of the Iranian-backed, anti-American Shi’ite militia that now claims to control Yemen, drew an angry response on social and other media.[…]

“Upon arrival at the airfield, all personal weapons were rendered inoperable in accordance with advance planning,” the statement continued.

“Specifically, each bolt was removed from its weapons body and rendered inoperable by smashing with sledgehammers. The weapons bodies, minus the bolts, were then separately smashed with sledgehammers.

“All of these destroyed components were left at the airport – and components were scattered; no usable weapon was taken from any Marine at Sana’a airport. To be clear: No Marine handed a weapon to a Houthi, or had one taken from him.”

Earlier, Fox News’ Megyn Kelly reported that, according to a source, the order for Marines to hand over their personal weapons at the airport had come from the State Department.

but its LIES

ALL FUCKING LIES

ZERO HEDGE or something

Right NIGGERS?

hey NIGGER...why is your NIGGER axing for farce against ISIS....is ISIS in the US?

He's pandering to the right wing warmongers.. I disagree with it. Offering drone support and possibly arms is the very most we should do imo.

We should get out... And let them handle it for themselves for a change. No more American soldiers need die for them.

Psaki: Third U.S. Embassy Evacuation In Mideast Doesn’t Mean U.S. Is Being Run Out Of Town, We Have Six Embassies In The Mideast Still Open

Strategic relocation of assets.

Via CNS News

First Syria, then Libya, now Yemen: The United States has now evacuated its embassies in all three of those countries, but on Wednesday, a State Department spokesman said “it’s not a reflection” of U.S. “engagement” or “leadership.”

A reporter asked spokesperson Jen Psaki: “This is the third embassy that you guys have had to, uncharitably perhaps say, abandon in an Arab Spring country since the first one, which was Syria. Is there a broader concern that you’re being – the U.S. is being run out of town in the Arab world?”

“We certainly don’t look at it in that way,” Psaki responded. “I would remind you that we were not the only country that moved our staff out of Yemen last night (so did the U.K. and France), and we have to take precautions to protect the men and women who are serving on our behalf.

Marines should never be under the command of an Ambassador, never.

I seem to recall when you Marines tucked tail and slunk out of Vietnam, you destroyed an awful lot of stuff in place rather than take it back to the states, including helicopters and tracking dogs.
