Obama asks Bill Clinton

Despite the baggage that he brings if Bill Clinton were running against John McCain then Clinton would beat McCain just like he beat Dole.

I like how you choose to ignore the last nine years.
That's cute.

to campaign for him. Smart move or big mistake.

I vote for major fuck up.

Even if they do so with gnashed teeth, intelligent naysayers acknowledge Clinton's continued high level of popularity (which has been made even greater by the contrast he provides to our current president).

You're either an idiot, or kidding yourself. I vote for a little of both.

Obama is making a mistake. Bill is starting to become a gaffe-machine. In a campaign where ever slip-up, every snide remark, ever innocuous statement is dissected, overblown and plastered all over the internet, someone like Clinton is just a powder keg.

Obama doesn't need him and I think he'll end up having to distance himself from Clinton's remarks again and again.

Obama is making a mistake.

Nope. Gotta make nice with the Clintons at this point. Americans are nostalgic for the 90s now more than ever.

Bill is starting to become a gaffe-machine.

That's true. Has it done him enough damage to change his positive influence? Don't think so. The man was impeached, and his popularity rating soared. Sorry - until he starts wishing death on random people, he's Teflon. Even Dubya Sr. is his best buddy.

He might. But the balance of that, yet still having him in his back pocket, will help.

What are you talking about? Since the subject of Bill Clinton was brought up I was comparing his last victory to the current choice of candidates.
Would you feel better about the statement if I say that Bill Clinton would have crushed George Bush if they were going head to head either in 2000 or 2004? While that statement is true it's not relevant to this topic.

Its a classic response from the Lit left, Obama is this, Hillary is that, " yeah, but he's /she's better than Bush". Okay, but the thread title is Obama asks Clinton....

Guys, there's an important election going on, try to keep up!

My own thinking on this is that Obama isn't so much interested in having Clinton campaign for him as he is just trying to keep him from becoming a problem.

But I think there are those on the right who have always underestimated Clinton's popularity--and not just those on the right; Gore would be finishing his second term right now had he not been so reluctant to embrace 1993-2000 as the good times they (mostly) were.

I think Obama will give Bill & Hillary Tuesday night at the convention and then sideline them.

True, I have been lax in that department. Bad, naughty Lavared.

I've never seen Bill as particularly charismatic or attractive and so I always wondered why people said he appealed so much to the "soccer moms". A woman I know who met him years ago told me that he is very tall with brilliant blue eyes and was quite sexy in person. I still don't see it but maybe only because he can't hold a candle to those two most charismatic, attractive Litsters: Slowlane and Wok.

(better?)

My wife never cared for him much either. She thought he did OK as president but she found him to be totally unlikeable.

Yes that's better. (except for the part where you included Wok)

That sums it up fairly well. Clinton is a loose cannon.

Point taken.

Do ya'll think that the Clintons really want to help Obama get elected? If Obama loses in 2008 then Hillary is in an excellent position to run again in 2012.

So' it's a bad idea then. On a level that I hadn't thought of.

Republican threads are starting to read like Christian Intelligent Design threads. "Of COURSE God meant for an ostrich to look like that! It's so OBVIOUS!"

I don't think he was actually impeached but you're correct that it didn't seem to adversely affect his popularity ratings; it seemed to cement his popularity with those who already liked him. I figure that was an underdog, us-against-them thing.

Don't the pundits (i.e. those T.V. folk who follow politics all the time and have to constantly fill the airwaves with talk that makes them sound competent and well-informed) say that he hurt Hilary's campaign more than helped it?

Personally, I think Bill lost it for Hillary. I'm pretty sure most think that as well.
