I remember hearing stories about immigration in the past. We had a center for screening immigrants (Ellis Island) and there were procedures in place. Immigrants were screened for disease. They were screened for a means of support. Did they have a job waiting for them? Did they have family members who could provide support? Now, there is no screening and there is no process. I can't picture a way that this doesn't destroy our country. the fact that immigration needs reform shouldn't mean essentially open borders with amnesty offered for illegal aliens. If anything it should mean closed borders until we get our act together. Sure, that would create hardship all the way around, but that would also provide motivation for getting it done. Not dealing with it is also causing hardship.
Another thing I was thinking about was the fact that liberals are generally pro-easy immigration, yet the people who immigrate may not share the liberal's core values. They are generally religious, anti-gay, anti-abortion and racist.
