My PC just got an interesting virus. The virus killed all the Microsoft admin tools. My friend had to re-install all the MS software and re-install Norton's .
A virus? A worm? Malware? Norton didn't catch it? Do you know how you caught it? Do you know the name? Is this enough questions?

Not sure what it was. As for Norton well it was my fault. I tried to install a new version of it while running the old version and then when I tried to undo everthing, my PC F*&ked up and I lost all virus protection. And then my niece when online with no protection. My computer geek friend fixed everything but he was in awe of the virus, worm, malware that just killed my MS admin tools.

In any case I am now up and running with Norton's but next year I will purchase another anti virus tool.

begging for information please Please ask your technogeek friend the name of the whatever it was. Those of us who apparently 'splode computers on a regular basis would love to know what we're looking for! I run lots of virus protection, but still, the one that killed my last system slipped past Norton and McAfee.

That's the problem, all his tools he had could not identify the virus, malware, worm...He was quite fasinated by it.

oh well back to square one. looks like my stuff is just gonna stay lost. :(
Don't give up so easily, Your data should be intact on your system, getting to it is another thing. Viruses usually will disable your OS and any anti-virus on board. So what you need is a bootable operating system on CD-rom. I have a version of Linux on disk and will get you the link to down load it this after noon (gotta go to work right now). You can boot your computer, surf the web and even use your cd burner to get your files off of your puter and its immune to about 80 percent of the stuff that attacks the windows OS. Ill get back to you this after noon.
