There is are a some good reasons for labels:

1) shortcut -- If you have a label then it takes less time to get to know the actual person. You can perceive some things based on experiences with others that have that label. You may be wrong, but some people don't have (or won't take ) the time to get know know you as an individual.

2) group comfort -- some people prefer the comfort of belonging to some group even if it doesn't fit them that well.

I agree, plus what I discovered is that for some folks, the avoidance of a label, lets them avoid the reality of their particular sexuality. We should all just be people and let it go at that, but our world is a long way from letting go of its obsession about what we do between the sheets. Sad, but true.

I do think however, that some people are so comfortable with themselves that they don't need a label, but these truly comfortable folks are few and far between.
