So Rae, the commute was horrible and the fact that you have no air conditioning must really suck! I'm sorry for both of those things... but tell me, how was your first day at work? Was it everything you expected? Was it more, or less?


Here's to the new day... may it be better than the last!

Well the commute on Monday and Tuesday wasn't bad, I actually was able to do some reading for school - so I made it productive. The air conditioning really does suck, especially since tonight is so hot and I don't have a window in my room that can open so my fans but suffice.
Work is going well, interesting, but not precisely what I expected. I'm kind of taking on the tasks of organizing someone else's job, who resigned a couple months ago, so I'm learning a lot doing this but it's not what I'll be doing normally. It's also a completely different work environment than what I'm used to being in, and no one is close to my age - which is ok but different. I've only been there three days though and I still have a lot to learn and know this position will be good for my career so we'll see.

Hugs are always appreciated! And cool air would be a plus, however I just took a nice cool shower so now I'm feeling pretty comfortable, hopefully it will last long enough for me to fall asleep.

Being teachers, we're on summer break. But don't think that's easy. Lesson plans to prepare, the office to keep in contact with (administration... I hate them in their occupational capacity -- every educator's adversary) and, on top of that, an infant to keep an eye (and ear) on.

Wow, that could be taken as either gloating or whining. It was intended as neither, of course! It started as an attempt to commiserate with you, Rae, as we both depend on public transportation usually. Of course, now that the baby's here and we live in the 'burbs we might have to use a car, at least part of the way.

You should either make the landlord invest in a small window unit for you or buy some ice bags and a box fan and then deduct those expenses from your rent. Moving air sure helps but in this heat lately, not terribly much.

Hey how've you been? They "fixed" our air conditioning again, every other time it's only lasted for two-three days so we'll see . . . And yes I miss seeing you around - it's been a long time! Hope everything's going well.

Fecking rain! It came in through the doors, and (even better!) on Saturday we had a big ol' shipment of most of our crap from Europe. From February 2004 to May this year, we'd been living in a tee-niny apartment in Arlington. Now we have room for our things, but they're all wet, including most of our books.

So, once we get done tossing the things ruined beyond salvation, we'll have more room.

Commute with the rain hasn't been to bad, one day I didn't have an umbrella and that was a little disappointing but I don't mind getting a little wet every now and then. Now on Saturday I have an all day class and throughout the last half of class it downpoured so hard we lost electricity for a bit which made it interesting. And Saturday night I took my parents to the Carole King concert at Wolf Trap - which was amazing, but add the thunderclaps and lightening and it really heightened the show. Going home though was extremely slow because of very hard rain - I could barely see. But obviously I made it!

I'm so sorry to hear about the rain damage! I would be pissed about my books getting wet as well. I hope most of it was salvagable!

The only ones we lost (thank God) were cookbooks. And, because of some fluke of serendipity, it was only the bottom third of two cookbook-filled boxes, and so my mother's cookbooks (which I pack at the top of the respective boxes) were saved.

Yeah I'm living in an especially crappy one at the moment, roaches and no air conditioning are the main highlights.
But in a month I'm moving to a much more expensive place, but also a far superior place in every way. Hopefully somewhere I can stay until I finish my Graduate program.
And then maybe if I get a good enough job after that's finished I can think about moving to a little house of my own.

And as far as reaching my goals, yes I do believe you are right, I do tend to be very highly motivated and determined. I've gotten myself on a good path. If only my luck in romance was as good!
