INTRODUCTION

ON GOING STORY​

Even before the economic collapse, the small mountain town of Red River was on the verge of "extinction" as its businesses closed their doors and its residents left for jobs and opportunities elsewhere.

What the town needed was a "stimulus package", and -- for better or worse -- it got one.

Martin Brinn, new owner of a thousand acre estate in an isolated valley a few miles outside of town, is investing in local businesses ... and individuals, as well, seemingly giving away money just for the asking. Initially, he asks for little in return, and it appears as if he's throwing his money around willy-nilly. But soon, the beneficiaries of Martin Brinn's benevolence begin to learn the truth behind their financial savior ...

Looking for...​

FEMALE and MALE writers. I prefer writers willing to write at least one PC and two (or more) NPCs; the NPCs only have to post occasionally, only have to post a few lines, and don't necessarily have to be long term.

Guidlines​

These are guidelines, not rules; they are flexible, in an effort to synch' our writing expectations:

>>> Post at least twice a week. This is flexible; some PCs/NPCs will be infrequent participants and may only post a couple of times a month.

>>> Compose at least 6 complete lines per posting. (I don't measure post length by paragraphs because some people like to write long paragraphs, whereas others -- like myself -- prefer to break up paragraphs into just a couple of lines. It's just the way I write.) This is also flexible; sometimes, one single line will create a situation which will be significant to all of the other characters. However, this is not a "one liner" type of RP, so don't make it a habit. Another note: sometimes conversations, activities, sex scenes, etc., require an exchange of LOTS of quick one liners. These should NOT be posted as one liners in the Main IC Thread; they should be composed and exchanged in PMs, edited (as you feel appropriate) by the collaborators when finished, and posted as a single reply. (If you have questions about this, feel free to ask for more details.)

>>> If you anticipate not being able to post -- say, over a weekend, during the school week, while your sexy mate is home on leave, what ever -- please inform anyone you feel needs to know; if you are currently in a collaboration, complete it before you disappear. The setting for our RP is the little town of Red River, population 333 (500, if you count those outside city limits. It is a small town and getting even smaller as another business seems to close its doors every month.

I will add pictures as appropriate. If you, the Writers, have a pic for your own home or business (or favorite place), please PM it to me and I will add it to this page. (Keep in mind that Red River is a rural Pacific North West mountain town; don't submit desert pictures or European cafes or streets with right hand steer cars and signage. Believe me, I've seen it done!)

The link to the blank Character Sheet is at the bottom of this page, but before you simply hop down there, here are some thoughts to consider when creating your Character:

1. Characters MUST be approved by the Host. PM your completed Character Sheet to HerNameIsFlinka; DONOT post them here until approved.

2. An essential element of the RP is how Martin exploits the PC's vulnerabilities. If your PC has no vulnerability, that element is null and void. NOT ALL t HAVE to have a flaw or fault or financial crisis or embarrassing and/or private personal issue to be a character; they can be perfect individuals, or perhaps reveal a flaw later. But remember, the concept behind the RP is that Martin comes to their aid, knowing full well that at some point he is going to try to extort assistance from them that either involves them donating blood or somehow accommodating his quest for blood through their action or inaction.

Appearance: Dani is very thin due to lack of food and fairly pale. She is only about 5’4”, and is in habit of wearing heavy black eyeliner and dark lipstick, almost as if a mask to hide behind. She has a tribal tattoo around her right forearm near the elbow, and one around her wrist which is slightly larger.

Background:
Nothing would be publicly known about Dani, but here is her Story:

Dani was born to drug addict mother Donna and a father,
whom she never knew. She assumed he was one in a long train of loser boyfriends.

She grew up moving from place to place with her mother. It was almost as if her mother was afraid to stay in one place for too long. Though she didn't know it, her mother had actually abandoned her when she was three for a year at her babysitter’s house, but upon conscience, returned and got her.

Dani went through more schools than she could count. Chicago, Baltimore, Boston, New York, all big cities. Her mother seemed to thrive on the grit and dirt that those cities held. Dani later found that this was probably due to the strong drug connections that kept her mother out of whack most of the time. When she was little, she didn't really understand what her mother was doing, her mother had told her it was it was her medicine, and she had believed it.

Dani never seemed to make friends easily, even as a little girl.
Perhaps it was because about the time she started school, was when she started to realize that what her mother was doing was wrong.

Being a bright child, though her mother constantly protested that she
didn't know how that could be possible, Dani was given the chance to go to a
gifted school at the age of 8. When she finally got her mother to come in to talk to the principle about it, her mother said she didn't take charity, and pulled Dani out of the school, and they moved yet again.

This sparked Dani’s hatred for her mother. She was tired of moving from
place to place, and even more tired of the disgusting filth her mother kept in her bed.

She also found out that flopping on her back was her mothers main source of income, which sickened her, even at the early age of 9. She tried to get her mother off of drugs to try and help the situation, but to no avail. She even told her school counselor trying to get her help. However, when she got home, her mother has packed up and they moved again, before any action could be taken.

It was when Dani was 13 that her mother decided that it was time that
Dani started helping out with the bills, and tried to pimp her out, and that was the last straw. A life on the street was better than the one she had with her mother. She took off in the middle of the night and started sleeping in the park. She was scared to death, though she wouldn't tell anyone otherwise.

She started scrounging and eating out of trashcans. It was about this
time that Star found her. Seeing a lot of herself in Dani, the 24 year old took her under her wing and introduced her to punk clan. Though nervous at first, Dani joined them. It was better to be scared with them, than to be scared alone.

She slowly adapted to this life, and it hardened her and aged her quickly. She was constantly battling to keep what things she managed to lift for herself and constantly in fights when Star wasn't around to look over her. She started to lift more and more as her things kept getting stolen from her, causing her to land in juvie a few times. It was then that she started sketching people in the park, drawing having always been one of her hobbies, and found that at least something she did came to some use in her new life, though cash, as well as belongings were difficult to hold on to.

One night, everyone laid asleep in the squat, except for Spike, Star’s boyfriend. Due to her mother’s promiscuity, it was a well known fact that Dani wouldn’t let anyone touch her. Spike decided to help Dani “warm up” to the idea…however, she struggled and fought him and ended up kicking him in the groin, which woke everyone up. Star yelled for seducing him, and Dani narrowly escaped with her life, as the whole clan started to beat her. However, all it took was one swift move with her knife to scare the Star into letting her go. She knows however, that they are probably still looking to finish what they started. She’s on the run and has been hitchhiking to get away from New York.


Anything else you want to say: She’s wary of men and doesn’t trust easily due to her history. She’s also a very talented artist and pick pocket.

Community Position: Owner of the Corner Cafe, a small diner that is seeing its share of hard times with the terrible economy. Anna tries to keep it open 24 hours,switching shifts so she herself can interact with the townsfolk who like the night better.

Background:Annabelle or Anna to those around her,has owned and run the Cafe for almost 4 years. She is a feisty redhead tryiing to make up for what she lacks in height with attitude. Her brother used to call her the 5 foot 4 redheaded tornado. Keeping fit by swimming and running when she can. Her deep green eyes could go almost 2 shades darker when she grew angry,one clue her family had when she got pissed off.

Anna is still fighting with her ex-husband who is trying to ruin her business and break her. Her tried to do it mentally but it didnt happen so he is going after the next thing. Her business.

Anna was born and raised here and refuses to give up and go elsewhere. When she isnt at work she spends her time writing and playing music. Talented on the piano and flute. She has a soft side for animals and underprivileged kids.

Her mother and father were not rich but made a stable life for the family. She has an older brother and younger sister whom have married and left the town. They had higher aspirations and a small time town was not the plan. Anna chose to remain here after her parents were killed in an auto accident 5 years earlier.

Anna and her ex had married young,tried for kids,then when Anna couldnt have any he chose to go elsewhere. She wanted a family but if not biologically then she would take any she could. She was known for letting kids who were passing through just for a few buck in their pockets.


Anything else you want to say: Anna is a very simple and down to earth woman,wanting the most out of life. Will fight for what she believes in no matter what. She will put others above herself almost everytime,but she can be just as stubborn.

Anything else you wish us to know about you: I'm pretty open and flexible. I will try any type of writing once,except the above mentioned. I have been here for awhile and have tried many story lines. Fantasy,supernatural, and medival are my primary likes. But not impartial to any storyline as long as it has a plot and then any sexual situations that need to be added. If the story cant keep my attention then eventually I will lose interest.

Martin purchased the former Wagoner Estate in October, 2010. (For a good description of the estate, see Post #1 or the "Places" section of the "Other Things of Interest" page.)

Background:

I'm going to leave this section fairly blank in the beginning, to leave a bit of mystery ... but primarily to give me some flexibility with Martin. However, as I post details, I will add them here as well.

Aside from the above information, this is what is known by the "locals", and possibly by your Character, depending on who you are:

>>> Martin is a mystery man: there is virtually no information out there about Martin, and Google searches of him soon after he moved to Red River brought up nothing about him beyond the fact that he'd purchased the Wagoner Estate.
>>> He bought the largest estate (by acreage) in the County, a property that also includes one of the County's most expensive homes. Most recently, the property was a vineyard with a popular public Tasting Room.
>>> The previous owner declared bankruptcy and committed suicide, and the property was sold by the County at auction for an undisclosed sum to settle back taxes. Now, the previously public estate is protected by a locked gate and, rumor has it, "ferocious guard dogs that only get to eat animals they catch in the woods".

Characters will not know this information, although they may come to realize that they act differently and feel more at ease than they should be when they are in Martin Brinn's company.

Martin has a charisma that borders -- but isn't -- magical. He has a way of easing people into trusting him or talking about things they wouldn't normally talk about, such as privileged legal information or insider stock details or upcoming events or just plain personal gossip; this ability is what enables him to get and use inside information to rebuild his fortune anytime he has to go into hiding or change his identity. The degree to which people will talk to him is based upon their initial openness; an extrovert will spills the beans totally about anything and everything, whereas an introvert will only tell a little bit, but it will still usually be more than they would tell their own mother or sister or priest or best friend.

Martin Brinn is "turned" during the Battle of Gettysburg (July 2) at age 29. Since then, he has aged to appear in his early to mid 30's.


Current Story

2010:

October: Martin Brinn buys the Wagoner Estate.

December: Martin Brinn meets Terrance Cramer (lawyer), who makes a confession.

2011:

January:

February:

Martin "takes care of" Terrance's problem with Rosy Peters.

Below is a list of Characters I would like to see someone create and write. They can be long or short term.

The first group are Characters I have pre-conceived ideas for. These ideas may or may not go the direction I want them to go, since you are writing the Character and I have no idea what way you will take your side of the story. (I WANT spontaneity and improvisation, so write the Character the way you want; if I wanted to guarantee an outcome, I would write the Characters myself, right?

The second group are Characters for which I have little or no pre-conceived ideas. They are simply Characters I think we need to have in our small town RP.

Characters I have pre-conceived stories for:

>>> The Sheriff: He/she (I would prefer the latter) is becoming suspicious of Martin Brinn and his activities, but seeing the good he is doing for the Communities economy, he/she might be hesitant to look too hard into Martin's past and present. (We already have a deputy as an NPC, but as of April 4, 2011, I have not introduced the actual Sheriff.)

>>> The Evil Land Agent: Someone is taking advantage of Red River's woes to buy up property and convert it to ... whatever. Martin might help the person, if he sees a few pints of blood at the end of the tunnel; or he might help the Citizens stop the man/woman, if he sees more pints coming from that direction. Maybe he might do both...
