Oh you thing you can ignore me becouse you six month older well think again, young person I don't know willl probably never meet. Go to you room and think about what you did.
What is the difference between a common name and a dragon name?
Rune
A red dragon with a green influence. He is pure red, except for his tail, which shows off his green heritage. His father was a combo of green and red, and his mother was a full red, so that's why so little of him is actually green, and it hasn't blended very well.
Around 600 years old. A new formed adult, cocky, outspoken, but also very relaxed and on top of things. He will choose to watch, and wait for the best time, and once it happens, he will go at it like no other. The peacefulness of the green and the raging stength of red. A perfect combination.
His powers include: Fire, fear, strength (technically a power, since red has more than other dragons, except for the grey), and regeneration.
Despite his young age, and his green background, is considered one of the strongest and most resourceful of the up and coming dragons. If it weren't for his tainted ancestory, other dragons would love for him to become the next red council member.
Can we get some more details on the powers? I mean, you called them spells at one time, does that mean we have to chant something in order for them to work? How well do they work, what is the limit to the power? Can we use them for just ourselves, or is it possible for us to be sort of a mediator in where the power flows.
I'm not only curious for my own powers, but for other dragons as well. Things like fear clairvoyance, mind control, and the like.
Poohlive, the reason that I posted a dragon name and then a common name is that a lot of the books that I have read concerning dragons have common names for them. If people(Mages) were able to get ahold of the dragons real name , it would confer some control over the dragon to that person.
Chewey
BTW: That is the reason that I put it and no one protested it, so the rest just folowed . lol.
I'm interested in Poohlive's questions, especially the one being the power of mind control. Does it work on other dragons or just on 'lesser beings'?
I ask because I'm a newbie and having mind control to me is an invitation to step on some other person's toes, even if it is unintentional. I'd like to get this potential trouble spot for me out of the way before we get started.
Yeah... what Chewy said...
Well, Chewy posted it, and I guessed I followed like a sheep... as did the others... but Chewy's reason sounds good
As for the powers, the way these are used vary from dragon to dragon. Some might do the whole chanting thing, others a more practical approach. As for the using them for yourself only/other people thing, that's something that varies from power to power. Generally they can be used on external objects/people, but with less potency.
As for mind control, there are legends about dragons with the kind of power to control other dragons, especially the rash, head-strong types, but generally that power is reserved for legends only. Controlling lesser beings is a lot more in the ball park, and actually quite easy - but can have disastrous effects. (After all, the mind is a terrible thing to taste) So use it sparingly.
Anyway, as I said before, powers vary from dragon to dragon. There are a diverse amount of ways to utilise skills, from deep meditation to belching forth a jet of flame from the mouth (Always a classic) - so don't worry to much about keeping this as a regulation. Make your dragon's powers as unique as possible. Don't worry about asking me if it's ok, coz the answer will almost always be yes - unless, of course, you're planning to utilise the sorts of abilities that make everything a bit one sided - which are open to the more powerful dragons, but I'd rather you'd PM me or something if you were planning to do so. But other than that, the answer will be yes.
I know I said I'd start the thread, but I'm a bit exhausted, and in a bit of a low IRL... so I'll put it off till tomorrow. Or the day after. Of the day - no, tomorrow. I promise.
What the hell Hy can't lose not the first battle the only reason I joined was to argue. Darn you hy. Darn you to hekk.
Huh, chewy siad something...... Common name..... Oh so thats why every one did it..... Me, No I did it because typeing Zyzzx has to get boreing after a while.
I was just wondering cause if we, as dragons, hadn't had contact with any other races in ages, if at all, why we would need common names.
To me, a common name implied something that humans had given you. Like your dragon name was what dragons called you, and your common name was what other races called you.
You way makes sense, although I think I'll stick with Rune in my character's case. No sense in making things too complicated.
I didn't put my character's name as a nickname or hidden name, just a short name, as typing Quasaris-chou-Yang gets to be a chore after a while. A four letter name is my own way of being lazy. And since my character has not really ventured out or have any significant contact with the lesser races, he has no need for a hidden name at this point in time.
Thanx for the reply Dark Warrior, I hope I don't make too many mistakes.
