I was planning to start this tale today, but I got "volunteered" to take a six-hour round trip to Harrisburg to drop off some documents. So........ The curtain rises on this story tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, and c-ya soon!

11th hour plot updates

There is no attached asylum. It's location is undefined. Willow has roamed quite a bit since her escape.

The doctor has asked the housekeeper to arrange the masquerade party for the third night. She has probably contacted Liesl for catering or bringing the food. The doc also asked Homer and Kitsune to find some kind of entertainment (maybe a fortune teller?....)

Wow!

Just seen the thread and am amazed at the size of the posts. Will be posting in due course.

Destiny Brent hasn't posted for about a week. Since I don't know if she'll be available, we need someone to take over the housekeeper's role. Does anyone have any suggestions for filling this role?

Frau Blickberg

If no one claims the housekeeper by the end of day... the Maid would LOVE to be the maid.

Marvel

Yes, poor Emil has not been able to rise to any occasion since Ghislaine's pseudo-demise. He's managed to keep the secret safe in his journal... at least, he hopes it's safe.

Honey, I really like how you're treating Kitsune. I just realized that nowhere did you say she was in animal form. It's like this is just her natural way, a blended mind of human and beast.

Thank you, Captain. Yes, Kitsune hasn't physically changed at all. She is just becoming more aware of her wolf characteristics the closer she gets to the full moon. Sort of a PWS, or Pre Wolf Syndrome. She is a woman, you know.

Jim! Oh Jim! You missed breakfast, and there are not-so-innocent guests wandering around the castle!

Fraulein Blickberg

It was no secret amongst the staff that Fraulein Blickberg was enamored of Emil Dresden. Although he depended on her for running his household and seeing to his basic needs, Dresden took no further notice of her.

She quietly accepted her lot in this, but that didn't keep her from trying to change it... or from planning a way for Ghislaine the Brain to take a nasty fall from the shelf one day while she was dusting.

Story feedback?

It’s been a couple of weeks now, and I’d like to ask for some feedback on the story. I’m not sure it’s moving along the way we all would like. I think part of the problem is that I’m new at putting together this kind of interactive story, and I may have started things out incomplete. I had my character’s motivation figured out along with some future actions, but the other characters were essentially blank slates with no description except for the vague “monster movie” characterization. Most of you are developing certain aspects of your characters, but you may not know in which direction they should move forward. In a sense, the story so far is kind of like real life, which has a certain amount of interaction but little unifying plot.

To address this, I have created motivations for most of the characters and defined relationships, based in part on what has already occurred, plus I have some suggested courses of action. But this is where I run into a problem, real or imagined. On the one hand, I want this story to work, and for everyone to have fun while working towards a common goal. On the other hand, I don’t want to state that any character must act in a certain way. I expected people to define their characters, but in the absence of a plot and motivation, I may have been asking too much. So what I’d like to do is offer these plot and character ideas as just that: ideas. If someone has a different way they’d like their character to act, or to do something different, please say so.

Another important point is that maybe this still isn’t something you’d like to be involved in. If, for whatever reason, you don’t want to continue posting in this story, just say so. I certainly won’t be upset about it, and would prefer to advertise for people who are eager to join. A base principle of role-playing is that it needs to be fun. If someone feels obligated to write, then they won’t be having as much fun and it will show in their writing, and that will affect the story.

What I want to do is offer my ideas and see your reactions. They can be tweaked, twisted, or completely changed, but I think it would be a great help for us all if we knew where everyone else was coming from and where they’re trying to go. For example, Emil Dresden has been impotent since the accident that claimed Ghislaine’s body. He hopes that her reanimation will cure him of this “affliction.” (It will, but there will also be a side effect.) His concern with the earth-shaking implications of his experimentations are secondary to just being able to live a normal life like before.

I’ll refrain from posting the rest of my suggestions until I hear from the other writers. What do you think? Is this a good idea? Am I overstepping my bounds? Do you have some ideas already in mind, or do you just want out? Am I just worrying about nothing? Let’s talk this over. It’s still early in the story’s first day, and we have plenty of time to turn this into something we can all have fun with.

I want to stay in this thread and welcome any suggestions. To be honest I have been playing my character as crazy but also maybe with a secret (or maybe she is just crazy). I havent exactly worked all of that out just yet. But I am more than willing to take her in any direction you want her to go. Please be patient with me, however, right now because I am ill. I am not always up to posting every day. (I have Crohn's disease and it seems to be acting up a bit lately) If this is a problem please let me know and I will understand if you wish to recast. Thanks :)

I don't want to withdraw from the story, either. But am a bit confused about exactly what role my character is supposed to play. (But, then, I'm often left confused in any role play that has more than 4 characters involved)

The only thing I see for my character right now, is to stay put at the cottage and not resurface until the party. Although what role she will play there, outside of serving up food, is questionable.

Chele, I do believe Kitsune is obsessed with the lovely Liesl. She just got distracted by a sexy madwoman. Now that Liesl over at the castle, we can interact for the first time.

Also, I think I read somewhere that Kitsune is supposed to contact Zelda about coming to the party. I can do that after I flirt with Liesl.

Don't get me wrong, I think what everyone has been doing up to now has been great. I'm just not sure if further direction is needed or even necessary.

But despite that, I'll go ahead and offer my ideas for the characters. Let me know what you think, or if this is even needed.
--------------------------
Homer: Lonely. Resents the doc, and doesn’t really want to give up abusing Ghislaine’s uninhabited body, but knows that it’s inevitable. He’s intimidated by the doc and Jim, who both want the body reanimated. He and Kitsune will be sent by the doctor to retrieve Willow and keep her locked up until the asylum workers arrive. Maybe Homer has a pet that recently died and he’d like to try reanimating it himself. But he can’t understand the complexities of the manuals and papers from the doc’s files.

Radcliffe: He is very interested in the doctor’s work, but has another mission. The Oxingham University administration actually sent him to gather information to discredit Emil’s work, to prove that he’s not really working on what his grant specified, but instead is continuing the experiments that got him thrown out of the university in the first place. However, Radcliffe has his own agenda. He sees the value and potential money involved in the doctor’s real work, and wants to steal the information for his own uses. But he needs to figure out where the doctor’s books and notes are kept, and has to study the experiments in action carefully. Possibly he and Homer could discover each other’s plans.

Kayla: She is extremely curious, and not nearly as dim as she seems. She knows that there is something special about this place that Radcliffe is very interested in, but he hasn’t told her what. She gets bored easily, and loves to explore. When she finds out about party preparations, she will be eager to provide her own input and assistance.

Liesl: She is moving her operations to the castle to get the party ready. She has ideas what would work best, which aren’t necessarily the same as Frau Blickberg’s. She could easily get lost in the labyrinthine corridors of the castle, and doesn’t know about any inhuman inhabitants yet. She may be fascinated by the foreigners Kayla and Radcliffe.

Kitsune: She respects the doc, and is friends with Frau Blickberg. She tolerates Homer, maybe finds him amusing, but is uncertain about Jim. Like them, she has free run of the castle. She doesn’t like strangers, and suddenly the place is full of them. She’s very territorial.

Frau Blickberg: She is in love with the doc, but is smart enough to see that he only has eyes for the Ghislaine. She doesn’t like the experiment, but is uncertain what she can do about it that won’t destroy any chance for the doc to love her back. He’s also asked her to put together a masquerade party for the town, supposedly to celebrate restoring his lost love and as part of their traditional fall festival. That would be hard enough without Jim and the farmgirl and that foreign woman trying to help out also.

Jim: He wants a mate and asked the doc to make him one. The doc wants to place Ghislaine’s brain into the body, not certain that it would survive until a new body is created. Jim is intelligent and educated, and sees himself as one of the bosses in the house, gladly taking on the role of host since Emil seems too preoccupied. He tends to get in the way of Frau Blickberg, who wants to run the house her own way. He has become so used to his patched-together looks that he actually thinks he looks good.

Willow: The doc will receive word that Willow has escaped from an asylum, and send Homer and Kitsune to bring her back. Once she’s captured, she’ll be placed in a cell in the dungeon until the asylum workers come for her. Somewhere in the chaos of these three days she will escape, as she’s done before, and will be able to move about the castle on her own. Her adventures can add a chaotic factor to everyone’s lives.

Ghislaine: Upon her awakening, she’ll be in a quandary. She’ll discover what was done to her, and will have to sort that out in her mind. The fact that she is in a new body could cause an identity crisis. While Emil is certain that she will choose him as her mate, Ghislaine might not see the choice between him and Jim, or anyone else, quite as clearly anymore. She’ll have the second and third days to adjust to her surroundings, and think about her choices.

Zelda: She needs to get to the castle in order to get beyond being a secondary character, as most of the action will take place within those walls. Maybe Willow could find her wagon, and that is where Kitsune and Homer find them. Any ideas here?

Ok, now I'm confused...

She doesn’t like strangers, and suddenly the place is full

Does this mean Kitsune won't like Liesl in the castle and will act territorial? Also not sure how your ideas you've posted mesh with the involvement I've already written between Willow and Kitsune. Should I try and bring her back?

See, I don't want to dictate how your characters act, and I'm not asking that you change anything. These are just suggestions, and you can adjust or discard as you see fit. I was building on Kitsune's animal-like nature. However, I think she has a human's intelligence. Just like you might not like a houseful of relatives and may personally dislike some of them, but that doesn't mean you'll act like that in front of them.

If we followed that plot twist, where the doc asks for Willow's retrieval, that won't happen until he learns who she is (maybe the nespaper, radio or something). That doesn't mean she couldn't do anything on her own, for her own reasons.
