oops

I got a bit of a scolding for my last post.

I tried to put Melvin's perspective on what the other posters had written about their characters. I didn't move them or put words in their mouths, but if I constricted anyone's plans or visions, please forgive me. If anybody needs it, just PM me and I'll edit in any repairs you think need .

I'll try to be more careful in the future. Me, I'm easy, just don't kill Melvin or the bird.

Sorry Sweetp, I forgot and will go and edit it out now.

Back laid me up yesterday.
Hope the trip to London was more fun than I had. *s

pooh the ship hasn't and won'd sail into the harbor bay and may just remain off shore.

Just setting the background and letting GM, aka Mr. Moore, know what's happening so he's prepared too rather than springing it on him and now we're circling the island off shore to look for sign of habitation and to see where and if we'll heave to or will I just have the ship stay at sea and return at set times to see if we're ready to be picked up.
After all it wouldn't do to be at anchor in a bay with no way to set sail and maneuver if a pirate ship came upon it and I like injecting a bit of realism into the fantasy. *S

PP01, a little question...

Would it seem realistic to you to remain a mile out to sea and row in all the way from the ship? If you are close enough to circle and look for inhabitants, then it is safe to surmize that the ship would be entering or close to entering a bay/harbor to get a better peek. basicly if the ship can see the land (at night) then those on shore could see the ship ;)

forgot to add in the factors here for my summary..

Its been already established the island inhabitants live in the port. Other side of the island.

It has cliffs and mountains and heavily vegitated ;) by my first post.

It's night.

They only had latern light back then to see by..

Spy glasses weren't that powerful..

:D get my meaning?

You wouldn't go into the bay because a pirate ship might come? Since when is the british navy afraid of anything? I thought your whole point of being out here was to find pirate ships, I thought the whole point of going to the island in the first place was for pirates.

I do understand the confusion though. And here's where I see it.

"We'll sail around it looking for lights and if there are any then look for a place to heave to so we can reconnoiter a bit. 8 18

I'd like you to accompany me on a little intelligence gathering expedition on yon uncharted island once we've sailed around it. 8

In both of your posts, you make considerable claim to the fact of going to shore just as soon as you sail around and look for lights. Now, this logic, as you seem is so worthy of your time, would state that being as there's a city on the island, you would see lights, and since you've stated it twice, with not so much as a word to stopping and finding out what to do next, you were going to find a nice place to "heave" so you could go on an expedition.

I'm sorry if I jumped the gun. I don't know if fear, or just ignorance keeps you from going on the island, but you are entitled to do whatever you want. I'll take down the post of you coming ashore.
In the future though, please don't forewarn people of your actions, only to go back on them. It's one thing to lie, which I understand, but if this was lying, you were lying to yourself and a fellow shipmate, which is punishable by hanging under British law, if I'm not mistaken. (you know, REALISM!!!)

I've edited and changed my post to pooh to a story post.

A ship at sea showing no lights would be nearly invisible and as I posted all he could see was the outline of the two ships in the bay/harbor on the leeward side of the island. They would be visible with the town's lights in the background behind them.

All that would have to been seen of the other bays was how wide and deep they were, afterall being on the windward side of the island, if they weren't wide and deep bays to allow maneuvering in the wind they wouldn't be suitable.

I also posted they were rowed ashore a mile away from the town not from a mile out to sea, still at night, and the Requim was standing well off shore, although not a mile out to sea.

As the sailor's rowed back they's show a "bullseye" lantern that only let light out on one side facing the ocean so that the Requim could sail to meet them and wouldn't be visible from shore.
